Hello and Hola Puesta del Sol community!
Welcome to the 2022-2023 School Year, and to our new Class of 2035!
We are excited to see many of you on the first days of school starting September 1 for Grades 1-5 and kindergarten on September 7.
Last school year wasn’t without challenges - keeping up with health and safety guidelines, transitions in programs and staff, including our new principal team (we are excited to help them as we start a new year), and of course the loss of our beloved Sra. Medina. At the Celebration of Life for Sra. Medina, I was truly inspired by how our Puesta community comes together to honor our dear teachers, staff, families, and the Spanish language.
Our focus last year was on engagement, particularly to respect and embrace our diverse community. My family enjoyed the return of the DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) committee’s potluck. PTA plans to continue host these and more activities to further our engagement: Walkathon, Family Fun Nights, PTA General Membership meetings, Art Appreciation, International Festival, and more.
Another focus is an exciting change coming up. So far, all signs continue to point towards the completion of our new school building and move this December.
We ask that that you will volunteer to help with our programs so that we can continue the enjoyment of Art Appreciation, Passport Club, Toymaker, Yearbook, and class events organized by Room Parents.
Your generous donations also allow us to provide student programs and educational activities such as library books, art supplies and classroom grants to teachers.
We would love to have every family engaged in this aspect of our community. We ask that you please consider joining the PTA and encouraging others to do so in completing the Back to School Forms.
Our school is as strong as its community, and we encourage each other to both share and listen to thoughts or suggestions, including reaching out to our PTA Board. We are your organization and are here to serve families as well as teachers and students.
Thank you, and I look forward to connecting with you soon.
¡Viva el español!

Hello everyone!
My name is Danilo Gasca Silva. I’m 21 years old, and I’m from Colombia. Currently, I am a student of foreign languages at the University of Tolima. Furthermore, I’m a folk dancer and
a traditional music singer (not a famous one) in some groups at my university. What I’m most passionate about in life is being able to share with children, make them laugh, play with them, and see their growth with all the opportunities and benefits presented to them through education. I love reading (I’m a big fan of Harry Potter stories), traveling, cooking, studying medicine and eating sweets because I’m a very gluttonous guy, especially with chocolate.
I hope that we can work together and learn many new things that allow us to grow as human beings. For my part, I can assure you that I’m completely willing to learn from you in the best possible way and I hope that you can have a great example and learn through my work.
¡Nos vemos muy pronto, no puedo esperar para conocerlos!

Hello!
My name is Erika Alcira Rivas Portillo. I am 27 years-old, I am 170 cm tall, and my favorite color is green. I am from San Vicente, El Salvador. I come from a city where people love music since the most important music bands of the country were born over here. Maybe it is the main reason because I love dancing and listening to music whenever I can. I also love watching movies, cooking, and going out with my friends and family. Recently, I finished my bachelor of education in the English language. It has allowed me to work with kids and young ages. A curious fact about me is that I am a coffee and animal lover.
Espero que esta nueva aventura sea increíble para todos, ¡los veo pronto!
Erika Rivas

Hey! I'm Erick Medrano from El Salvador.
I'm 26 years old. I enjoy participating in recreational activities and playing soccer. I like to be part of the teaching process as I also learn along the way. I am a person who is open to any possibility of trying something new in my life and thus having new experiences that make a difference. I know I'm about to live a great experience and meet people that will be part of my life somehow.
I'm looking forward to meeting you!

¡Hola! My name is Celia Merino Calle and I’m from Spain. I’m 24 years old and I have just finished my English Studies bachelor degree in Valladolid. I’ve worked with kids during my years of student, so it’s time to face this new opportunity to share my language and culture to all of you! I’m a traveler person who loves to learn something new from all the places I’ve been.
I’m sure this experience is going to be amazing and we’re all going to have a great year!
¡Nos vemos pronto!

Our PTA Board and Committees need your help!
Our school community can’t do what it does for our kids without helping each other!
The start of the year is a great time to browse through roles available on our PTA Board and various committees. Check out our Board and Committees page.
Descriptions are available by clicking the name of the role and/or e-mailing the board member/Director listed. To view descriptions, you may need to set up your PTA website log in first. If you haven’t already done so, go the registration site. Once you are logged in you can find out more, and even sign up! If you need help, e-mail membership@puestadelsolpta.org. The PTA Board will also be at our Back to School events to answer your questions.
In particular we need help with Directors/Co-Directors for PTA, like:
- Director of Communications
- Co-Director of Fundraising
- Co-Director of Ed Enhancement
- Pumpkin Bash Coordinator (which is already coming up!)
- and more!
E-mail Membership, or come talk with us at our upcoming events!

School Supplies for 2022-2023
|
Yes, you may have noticed the list is shorter this year and that is intentional.
Here is the 2022-2023 Puesta del Sol School Suggested Supply List.
Bellevue School District has worked hard to work on a plan to provide the instructional materials (e.g. textbooks, workbooks, paper, pencils, crayons, etc.) necessary for all student’s academic success and you’ll see this across schools in the school district.
There may be a few asks for individual classes which families will learn about after students get their class assignments.
If you are shopping at Amazon.com, remember to sign up for AmazonSmile and designate Puesta del Sol Elementary/Sunset Elementary PTA Bellevue Council 2 3 95. It costs you nothing and gets money donated to our PTA with each purchase!
