The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe
Jesus Christ is the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead and ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, who has made us into a kingdom, priests for his God and Father, to him be glory and power forever and ever. Amen. Behold, he is coming amid the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him. All the peoples of the earth will lament him. Yes. Amen. I am the Alpha and the Omega, says the Lord God, the One who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.   ~Revelation 1
A Message From Fr. Gonyo
Dear Parishioners and Friends;

This weekend we celebrate the Solemnity of Christ the King and the namesake of our own church located on Kings Highway at Saint Kateri Tekakwitha parish.

While this feast brings closure to our church year, it also marks a new start as we will light the first candle of our Advent Wreath next weekend.

We have free Advent prayer booklets available at our church entrances.  We also will be placing new missalette hymnals into our pews for the first time in two years.

Thanksgiving Day mass will be at 9:00am on November 25th at Christ the King church. There will NOT be a noon mass on Thanksgiving Day.

May God bless you!
Fr. Gonyo
The Deacon's Corner
Your generosity is second to none. During our SOCKTOBER FEST, the members of Saint Kateri Parish donated about 1300 pairs of socks. Some of the places the socks were delivered to included: Bethany House, Dimitri House, St. Joseph’s House of Hospitality, The Veteran’s Out Reach Center, Batavia Veteran’s Hospital, the homeless living in tents around the city and dwelling in the Civic Center Garage. In addition, the parents of our confirmation candidates were all given socks to distribute to the people that they know are in need.

The Hebrew word anawim means those who are bowed down. The anawim of the Old Testament were the poor of every sort: the vulnerable, the marginalized, and socio-economically oppressed, those of lowly status without earthly power. In fact, they depended totally on God for whatever they owned.

Where are the anawim today? They exist in abundance in Monroe County and especially in the City of Rochester. Our city is about 3 times the national average for the percentage living in poverty (About 33%) and our children (<18 years old) is a national high at over 51%. These people I would say represent the modern anawim.

Saint Kateri Parish has been and continues to be a great Christian support for those who live on the edge of society. An even greater outpouring of your generosity has been demonstrated in supporting the Giving Tree and Collecting of Food to help those in need. Blessed are you for you have been Christ to others.

Peace and Blessings,
Deacon Lon

Advent Small Group Reflection

Zoom Advent Reflection Group
We are forming a small reflection group to meet during the four Thursdays of Advent, beginning December 2nd. We will bee using the Waiting with Joy; Advent reflections resource. Please contact Mark Keller (mark.keller@dor.org) for more information and to register for the group.

Existing groups are invited to use any of the following resources:
  • At Prayer with Mary – a six session small group faith-sharing resource. ($10)
  • Longing for the Holy – 12 sessions ($17)
  • Prayertime, Year C – 52 weeks to coincide with the Church Year ($13)
  • Waiting with Joy; Advent reflections – 4 sessions ($5)

Please contact the office to let us know which resource you would like to use, and how many you will need. As in Lent, we would order the books and ask that individuals donate to cover the cost, as they are able. Each of these resources are also available as an “e” book, and these would have to be ordered by the individual user.

More information can be found at: Small-Group Books (renewintl.org)

Small group prayer and faith sharing is one of the most powerful ways of strengthening your own faith and subsequently the whole parish.
