“Cultivating Kindness, Relationships, and Growth for all.”
News You Can Use: February 18, 2022
Dear CCGS Families,
Thank you for all of your flexibility and patience during our first remote learning day of the school year! Although we would much rather see all of our kids in school, I know the teachers and staff were so happy to see the students over ZOOM. I want to thank my wonderful staff for the hard work they put into the planning for our remote day as well. If you have a moment, please send them a personal thank you too! We are very excited about our 2/22/22 activities next Tuesday. As a reminder, there is no school on Monday in honor of President's Day. Please see the information below.
Each week I offer a way for you to share a celebration or ask questions on this survey. If you would like a specific reply, please add your name so I can get back to you. If you comment about a specific teacher- I send this directly to them and I know it really brightens their day! This week I was able to send some emails to three teachers!
Here is some feedback we received this last week:
"Going in to volunteer this week, I didn’t know if I should wear a mask or not. We teach our kids that we respect others situations and wear them where required, so having the choice was odd! I was unexpectedly delighted at seeing some whole
faces for the first time. I was also impressed at the way some kids and staff were wearing them and some weren’t and it didn’t seem a big deal. Everybody did what they were comfortable with. It was different than expected after paying attention to the community this past week. So long story short 😆, I was so happy to see everyone just doing what they were comfortable with and moving on. Thank you for creating that kind of environment of inclusivity!"
"I don’t know where to begin… I continue to be impressed by CCGS teachers and staff everyday! Everything from the greetings in the morning at drop off, to the pictures in Seesaw, to the fun events planned for the kiddos! You guys rock! Thank you for making my first kiddo’s school experience so positive… even during a pandemic! You guys haven’t skipped a beat! These past few years in teaching have been very challenging and we’re so thankful for such a welcoming school and staff. Also, a shoutout to the custodians and crew! They are always around and working their tails off! Thanks for all you do! Your hard work is noticed and appreciated!"
A question from a parent was: "What else can parents do to help the teachers? Send things home with the kiddos to cut out, sort, copies, etc." Please email your child's teacher and ask how you can help them directly. They would love for you to help at home or in the school!
Speaking of special staff members...
Do you know someone who represents the best of Yorkville CUSD 115?
Nominate them for the Fostering Our Future Award!
The Yorkville 115 community has shown extraordinary grit during the past year. Yorkville 115 staff seamlessly reimagined lessons and prioritized students' social and emotional needs. Yorkville 115 community members created virtual events, organized to help families affected by the pandemic, and created connections outside of school buildings that supported the students and staff working inside them. This connection is the heartbeat of our school district- what it means to be a Yorkville Fox. Every day, this steady pulse runs through the district. The Foundation wants to share the stories of these extraordinary heroes and honor them through Fostering our Future, its district-wide awards ceremony and recognition program.
Click here to learn more & nominate that amazing teacher, community member, or volunteer! Deadline to nominate is 2/25/2022.

Please send an extra outfit for your child: Even with snowpants many of our students are finding their pants and socks soaked after recess. Please send in an extra pair of clothes (socks included) for your child to keep in his or her locker. Additionally, our nurse is in need of pants for girls and boys size 8-12, If you have any gently used pants we would appreciate them!
-
Behavioral Issues in the Bathroom: We are having some student issues with the group bathrooms that we are hoping you can reinforce with your child at home. Please discuss not putting paper towels in the sinks to overflow them, not putting toilet paper in urinals, and an overabundance of toilet paper in the toilets. We also have students locking the stalls and then crawling under. Anything you can do to reinforce what we are discussing at school would be very welcomed!
-
Kid's Heart Challenge: We are continuing with our kids heart challenge! We have already collected over $2,000 for this important charity.
-
Scholastic Book Fair: Your student will have an opportunity to create a wishlist in school and shop in school on their library day. However, we understand that some families will want to come and shop with their student. If you are interested in shopping after school with your student, please sign up for a timeframe using this link. We are asking for sign ups to prevent a large crowd in the library. All visitors will also need to complete the visitor QR code health screener.
- Masks: Masks are still required on the bus to and from school. Please ensure your student is wearing one and has one available.
-
Car Rider and Walker Reminders: Please have your red or green name showing for pick up time whether a walker or a car rider. K-3 parents, please make a right turn only into the rear lot at the end of the day. Please do not block the driveways on Mill and Orange Street so those families can get out of their driveways.
-
Lost and Found: Is your child missing an item? Have them check the lost and found in the main hallway!
-
Lunch: Students have 3 lunch choices every day. The menu is sent home with every student and is also on the Y115 app. You can also click here to find that!
-
Devices: Please send your child's charger to school each day. It is also the responsibility of the student to charge each night. We have several students coming without charged devices and no way to charge.
Have a great weekend!
