We are beginning an effort to digitize our extensive archives, especially our Daedalian history books containing important papers and information about the development of the organization over our prestigious history. As an additional benefit of membership, we are working to make these history books available to members securely online. Additional details will be released as the project moves forward.
To support this effort, we have hired a new staff member, Pam Watson who will be working as our preservationist. We warmly welcome her to the organization. If you have any questions about our preservation effort or arvhives, she can be reached via email at pam@daedalians.org.

A company called PCI has commenced an oral history project to preserve the stories of our Daedalian members with the aim of sharing your diverse and impressive accomplishments. PCI may be reaching out to our organization members to ask if there is interest in sharing your personal histories for this project. You may receive or have received a postcard letting you know this is a Daedalian project.
While we are supporting this effort, we are not managing the project. If you have questions or experience service issues, they need to be directed toward PCI. As challenges or concerns arise, please contact our office so we can connect you with PCI. They will ultimately be creating a few products, some of which will be available for purchase. There is no obligation from the organization to purchase anything.

U.S. Air Service Operation Regulations
1920
A Note from the Editor, Miss Taylor E Watson
|
As we prepare to welcome many of you to our annual meeting next month, we have been doing some housekeeping at the headquarters building. After a year of having to work from home following a rushed exit, there were so many things to look through as we picked up projects again from boxes of files we left behind.
Among the array of cardboard, a treasure trove of heritage materials we'd received in the mail and had been assembling for articles was among our pleasant rediscoveries. In addition to a full set of original crew portraits and strike photos from a bomber group's tour in Korea, an original flight instruction manual from the 1940s, and a three inch thick file of stories of combat experiences and time in the service typed out, or in some cases, handwritten, by our original Founder Members, was the scrapbook of one Col. Bruce Hinton, USAF (Ret.), Daedalian Life Member #212. He passed away in 2009, but was the first F-86 Sabre pilot to shoot down a MiG-15 during the Korean War in his heyday.
A skilled and celebrated aviator, looking through his scrapbook of songs, article clippings, paintings and prints of favorite aircraft, along with mementos and memorbilia from aviation history, it felt like I was getting to know a friend. Reviewing the things he'd kept and that inspired him, it seems that no matter how much technology advances, the passion for flight, spirit of service, and love of the air and of our nation that inspired those who came before remain alive and well in the young men and women who are embarking on their military aviation careers today. The important things never change.
Many of you are familiar with the U.S. Air Service Operation Regulations from the early days of aviation, but it's worth another share and review now and again. This one is from Col. Hinton's scrapbook and is now framed and hanging in my office at headquarters. We can take for granted that it has only been about a century that man has been able to fly. It is incredible and wondrous how much we have been able to accomplish in so short a time. I will be looking up at this from time to time to remind myself of how amazing the mission we serve is, and express sincere gratitude for the opportunity to share your stories.
