Monthly News from Washington Park United Methodist Church
From Your Pastor
Greetings!
With the mask mandate recently lifted, many of you have wondered what we’re doing at the church, especially during worship. While we realize that many of us are vaccinated, we still want to be cautious and consider those among us that might be vulnerable.

Working within a core value of “Do No Harm”, here are our updated June Guidelines for Worship:

·We will no longer require sign-ups for worship
All are welcome! We have enough space for our summer crowd to still gather inside and practice physical distance from others.

·We still want people to mask inside, even if vaccinated
Our reason is simply because not all of our worship participants (including children – a big part of our community!) aren’t vaccinated yet. We want to protect all participants, and provide a place of welcome and hospitality.

·As long as you’re masked indoors, you are welcome to SING!
One big loss during this COVID season has been the caution against signing, as it is a high-risk activity. However, the newest CDC information and guidelines from our Mountain Sky Conference are that as long as you’re vaccinated and masked, the risk goes down significantly. We look forward to hearing your voices!

*Also, join us for the first Sundays of the month during summer right after worship (about 10:20am) outside in the courtyard for un-masked hymn singing led by Steve Bondy!

When you’re around the church in general, we still ask you wear a mask. Because the preschool is one of our biggest ministries, we want to show our care and protection for our students.

We’re all looking forward to the summer and opportunities to gather, reconnect, and enrich each other’s lives.

Peace, Rev. Sandi

We’re so excited to welcome you back into the sanctuary!!

Finance Committee Update
Hello WPUMC,

I’m happy to report after a year of COVID and somewhat volatile markets that the Church is in very stable financial condition. I am responsible for the management/direction of the Church’s Foundation Endowment account and then the Long-Term General portfolio account. We have been moving some of the funds over the last year into a more longer-term strategic allocation with the focus on long term growth. We want to eventually put the funds and the Church into a position where we can withstand any type of financial strain beyond our control which we just experienced through the year of the Covid pandemic.
The finance committee is also discussing a long term financial policy statement that we will release in the next several months as a template for future committee members to engage and have a strategy for the next several generations of our congregation.

Vacation Bible School Summer 2021
We are pleased and excited to announce that Washington Park United Methodist Church will be hosting Vacation Bible School ( VBS) this summer. With much discussion, planning and educating ourselves with COVID-19 safety standards and precautions, we feel secure and safe in hosting VBS for kids this summer in our church. We have had a successful preschool year and will use standards and precautions outlined by the state as we did so with the preschool program. Here are the highlights

 Knights of the North Castle
 August 2nd-6th
 M-Th 9:00-11:30, F 9:00-12:15
Age 3(potty trained) through completed 6th

Youth Group
Youth Group is (almost!) out for the summer! Be sure to join us for our big end-of-the-year, summer kick-off PANDEMIC POT LUCK! On June 6th, join us for a potluck & movie day from 11 am-1 pm. For our potluck, bring your favorite pandemic recipe you learned or your favorite pandemic snack to share!

Over the summer, we will have two after church God Squad Planning meetings on July 11th and August 15th from 11 am – 12:30 pm. In these sessions, I will be offering students the opportunity to help guide the planning process of our God Squad year. From our mission projects to our lock-in themes, our students will be able to guide the major events in our year!
I am so looking forward to the opportunity to grow our ministry together.

If you have any questions or are interested in joining the Wash Park UMC God Squad, please email Rev. Jamielee at [email protected]
Father's Day Slideshow

HELP OTHERS AFTER A CHALLENGING YEAR
It has been a challenging year for many people. As we sheltered in place and traveled less, our homes became our offices, schools, theaters, place of worship, and a sanctuary from the chaos. Perhaps more than ever, we realized how important a stable, safe and “big enough” home is to every family.
With the skyrocketing prices for homes and apartments in the metro area, may parents are unable to provide a safe and affordable home. Due to these ever-increasing prices, hardworking and deserving parents must move their families again and again or live in crowded and unhealthy conditions. Thankfully, Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver has assisted families in making a safe an affordable home a reality for over 41 years. During this most challenging year, Habitat’s mission and work has continued.

Once again, WPUMC has multiple opportunities to support Habitat in their critical work. You have a chance to make a difference! There are 3 different opportunities currently available.

· Join the WPUMC work day on Sat., July 10 from 8:45 AM – 4:45 PM
On the Habitat website, they happily announce that “Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver is excited to begin construction on 28 new homes in Aria Denver, a multigenerational, mixed-income community that supports simple, healthy living. Located eight minutes from downtown and one block from Regis University, these 2-, 3- and 4-bedroom homes are part of a 17.5-acre development featuring organic gardens, a playground and open spaces. This collaborative neighborhood includes a unique mix of housing and community resources to foster connectedness, healthy living and diversity.”
Our congregation has the exciting opportunity to work in this new development in July. Volunteer numbers will be kept small, and Covid safety protocols will continue as directed by the CDC. We reserved 5 spots for Sat., July 10 for our congregation. If more than 5 volunteers want to help, a waiting list will be generated.

·Volunteer at the Aria site on additional days
In addition to the WPUMC work day in July, further opportunities are available at the Aria site. To accommodate busy schedules, we offer more dates to support this important work. Here are the number of volunteers and dates available:
o  5 volunteers on Sat. June 26th
o  2 volunteers on Sat., July 24th
o  5 volunteers on Sat., August 14th

·Help at the Production Shop on Fri., June 18 from 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM
The Production Shop is a great way to support Habitat in a climate-controlled setting. Volunteers help with painting or house framing inside a large warehouse. Later, these materials are taken to various Habitat worksites to make the work onsite more efficient.

If you would like to volunteer or want more information, contact Carol Nelson at 303.810.4635 or at [email protected]. Please let me know ASAP if you are interested because slots will fill quickly. I look forward to hearing from you!
