In Syria, Iman K. and her husband were both doctors. One day, while her husband was performing surgery, their hospital was bombed. He was hit in the head with metal shrapnel and was sent to Lebanon, then eventually to the US, for surgery and recovery. Shortly thereafter, Iman and her children joined her husband in the States. It was during his care at Spaulding Hospital, that she decided to pursue her medical career in America.

Not long after arriving in the US, Iman began accessing JVS services and has been working various jobs. In 2019, she enrolled in the Together We Rise Program. Her career coach encouraged her to apply for the Phlebotomy Technician Program at Roxbury Community College. Iman recently completed the program (with a 96% passing grade) - all while working full time and caring for her three children! With help from career coaches at MassHire Downtown Boston, she applied for and is awaiting acceptance into an externship program. Once she completes her externship hours, Iman will take the Phlebotomy exam.
