Help Reinvigorate
Morton Park's Cherry Trees
Help us preserve and protect our aging trees at historic Morton Park. Join us Saturday Sept, 11th @10am for a family volunteer event to help us spread a layer of mulch under the park’s grove of cherry trees.

Later this fall, the Newport Tree Conservancy and Bartlett Tree Experts plan to rejuvenate the storied Kwanzan cherry grove by amending the soil with biochar. This volunteer project will prep the ground around the grove's roots.

The more hands the better for the task, and you’ll be doing your part to protect these beautiful spring-flowering specimens! Please dress for the weather with closed-toe shoes. Tools will be provided. Bring your own gloves and water.

Synopsis: Peter Wohlleben, a forester in Hümmel, Germany, has become an internationally acclaimed author for his insightful and inspiring books about ecology and the environment, none more so than his 2015 bestseller "The Hidden Life of Trees: What They Feel, How They Communicate – Discoveries from a Secret World." Wohlleben has been celebrated for his impassioned discussion of the wonders of tree life and the terrible mismanagement of modern forestry, as well as his ability to explain complex bioscience for the general reader, particularly how the exchange of nutrients and chemical information among trees might rightfully be thought of as a communication network

@Rough Point
Thursday Sept. 23rd | 5:30-6:30pm
In partnership with the Newport Restoration Foundation, we’re excited to invite you to the grounds of Rough Point to learn about Newport’s venerable turkey oaks and our work to preserve them.
The turkey oak is one of Newport’s most prominent specimen trees. Notable specimens can be found throughout the town on various estates, properties, and public parks, but perhaps none are grander then the magnificent individual at Rough Point. The Newport Tree Conservancy is keen on preserving this tree, and other heritage turkey oaks, through propagation and education. By doing so, the history these trees carry will continue indefinitely. In this program, we will discuss the turkey oak (Quercus cerris), the history of the tree at Rough Point and in Newport, and our successful propagation efforts to preserve the lineage of this glorious plant.
