Cheerful Updates from MMCC Global March 2024

New teams in Bangladesh

As part of our expansion strategy we recently started Social Circus activities in the world’s biggest refugee camp in Bangladesh. In a two weeks visit, we introduced MMCC’s activities and trained a team of 12 young trainers, including 3 youth from the hosting community. The youth, with our local partner, are now in the process of forming 3 children circus teams in different parts of the huge Kutapalong camp, which houses almost one million Rohingya refugees from Myanmar. 55% of these refugees are children, who all need hope, fun, laughter and educational shows. The current short pilot project is financed by CISU (Civil Society in Development from Denmark) and implemented in partnership with a local NGO, KOINONIA. The aim is to build a base with the short project while looking for additional longer term supports to keep, sustain and expand the new activities in Bangladesh. We are currently looking for donations to support continuation of the activities in an expected funding gap when the short term pilot project ends. Our Mobile Educational Shows are back!

After a long break, we have finally restarted our Mobile Educational Shows. Since 2002, MMCC has performed educational shows for over 4 million children on various important topics like Hygiene, Landmine Awareness, Polio, Malaria, COVID-19, Child Rights, and Peace Education among many more.

On its first tour, the new mobile team in Afghanistan performed our popular Hand-Washing shows in six locations in Nangarhar province for a total audience of 4450. The educational shows are accompanied by circus and fun performed by the local children circus teams.

After the successful kickoff, many more such shows will hopefully soon follow across Afghanistan where our teams are located. Please help spread the word within your network, as we're seeking sponsors to support these precious Mobile Educational Shows. Anyone interested please ask them to send us an email to info@MMCCglobal.org

Expanding Social Circus Network in Afghanistan:

Now we have 34 Social Circus teams operating in 17 provinces. These teams, supervised and supported by MMCC, are led by dedicated youth team leaders who conduct weekly social circus activities for over 2000 children.

The 17 provinces are: Kabul, Nangarhar, Bamyan, Khost, Herat, Balkh, Laghman, Ghor, Badakhshan, Daykundi, Nooristan, Paktika, Logar, Kunar, Kunduz, Zabul, and Helmand.

To learn more about each team and their activities, you can visit their individual Facebook accounts by clicking on their logos at this link: www.mmccglobal.org/acn

Containers on the move:

We're right now in the process of relocating our centers in both Kabul and Herat. The decision to move stems from practical considerations: in Herat, we move to avoid an increase in rental costs. In Kabul, the land was sold and the new landlord is planning a larger construction.

Containers are fortunately like building with LEGO. While both container-based centers are quite complex and spacious, transitioning to our new locations therefore isn't as difficult as it may seem. Through long-distance online support and collaborative modeling similar to playing with Legos, we've swiftly developed plans for restructuring our new centers.

Ethiopia

Though the project we initiated last year in Ethiopia has finished we are so happy that despite the lack of funding our local partner is still continuing some of the activities. We keep looking for sponsorship and hope to soon find support for a longer term project to maintain, further develop and expand their Social Circus activities to benefit many more children in Ethiopia.
