Ramadan
Ramadan begins this Saturday!
The Muslim holiday of Ramadan starts on Saturday, April 2, which is also the new Hebrew month of Nisan. During Ramadan, many Muslims fast daily from sunrise to sunset, but the real focus of the month is on reflection, prayer, and charity. Ramadan commemorates the tradition of the Quran being revealed to the prophet Muhammad, and every evening includes a festive meal with friends and family.
Two lovely greetings you can use this month are “Ramadan Mubarak,” which means “A blessed Ramadan,” or “Ramadan kareem,” which means “A generous Ramadan.” Watch our House of Peace volunteers offer greetings for the holiday here, and offer your own Ramadan greetings on social media any time this month.

On Friday, April 8, the House of Peace will return to welcome our Muslim friends to Jummah services at the Islamic Center at NYU, as we did for more than 3 years! Join team chair Harold Levine and Rabbi James at 238 Thompson Street from 12:45–2:30 p.m., or for any portion of that time.

Watch CBST’s Ramadan greetings from Rabbi Kleinbaum and the House of Peace team.
In the past week, we’ve been devastated to see violent attacks increasing in Israel and the Palestinian territories. We condemn these acts of terror. This moving post from Standing Together, an organization we love of Israelis and Palestinians working together for peace and justice, says it all. May there be peace in the Middle East, and in our time.
