Amberely Village Municipal Building Reopens!
Welcome back from your Amberley Village Administration, Police, Fire & Maintenance Departments! Amberley Village Municipal Building is now reopened to the public - and we're looking forward to seeing you!
For safety purposes, the Village will continue to practice safety protocols, including temperature checks, masks and regular sanitizing. Most public spaces in the building are now touchless, including restroom sinks, soap and towel dispensers, and a new touchless temperature scanner at the building entrance. Hand sanitizer also remains available throughout the building.
Public meetings will resume in person beginning with the July 12 meeting of Council, which will be held in Chambers at 6:30 p.m. Council and committees will remain on Zoom until after the July 12 meeting, at which time committees will reconvene in person. Please note the Community Room will remain closed for public use until further notice to accommodate safe community engagement for our committees.
Questions? Contact Village Administration staff at 531-8675, or visit the Community Action Line page on our website via the button below. Can't wait to see you!

June Safety Banner & Display

Amberley Village has been regularly updating its hillside messaging all year to reflect important themes and timely topics. This month, we remind drivers of the importance of focusing on driving while behind the wheel by highlighting the dangers of texting and driving. This poignant message will also include a crashed automobile on the hillside. The hope of all of us here at Amberley Village is that as things begin to open up again and travel time increases throughout the region, drivers will continue to keep safety top of mind.

Amberley Park Improvements
Visitors to Amberley Park at the Municipal Building will notice new signage to indicate the distance of various route combinations on the park's Walking Track. The map includes an overview of the facilities at the corner of Ridge and Section Roads, including ball fields, tennis courts, and fitness stations. Residents are reminded that dogs are not permitted at the Municipal Building Park, regardless of whether or not they are leashed.
In addition, a new 55-gallon rain barrel has been installed along the Walking Track along the backside of the Municipal Building property, complete with a diverter and bench. The Maintenance Department utilizes the rain barrel to water the nearby flower garden, which is home to six species of flowers.

Proposed Regulations on Dogs at Amberley Green
Amberley Village is considering implementing restrictions on dogs at Amberley Green to address a growing concern with off-leash dogs and related incidents. A meeting of the Public Buildings & Parks Committee will be held on June 8 at 5:00 p.m. to hear public comment on the proposed ordinance, which would limit hours dogs would be permitted off-leash. Residents interested in weighing in on the topic are encouraged to attend the online meeting, or submit written comments to the Clerk of Council. Two additional readings of the ordinance will be held at the June 14 and July 12 meetings of Council, where residents will also have an opportunity to address Village Council. For more information regarding protocols, background and the language of the proposed ordinance, click on the button below.

And the Junior Citizens Awards go to...
the "Amberley Angels!"
Congratulations to Ruby Gilles and Grace Cotton for their recent recognition by the Amberley Village Police Department! You may remember them as the "Amberley Angels" reported in our E-News a few months back for their delivery of messages of hope to neighbors during the pandemic. Well, they're still at it, and receiving much-deserved recognition! The video at right was shown during the May Council Meeting via Zoom, where Chief Wallace publicly thanked them for their inspiring acts of kindness.
Village residents Grace (l.) and Ruby (r.) model their Junior Citizens Award medals at a private ceremony in Council Chambers, which was later shared publicly at an online Council meeting.
Amberley Village Council meets on the second Monday of each month.
The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 14 at 6:30 pm, and will be held online only.
Information to watch online or attend via Zoom is available on our website at www.amberleyvillage.org. Residents may call in or attend online to participate. To speak at the meeting or submit written comments, please contact Clerk of Council Tammy Reasoner by noon the day of the meeting at 531-8675 or at tpreasoner@amberleyvillage.org

New Salt Conveyor to Save Taxpayer Dollars
Amberley Village Maintenance Department has collaborated with multiple municipalities to purchase a salt conveyor, which will maximize the efficiency of winter operations.
The salt conveyor, which piles rock salt into our storage barn, has traditionally been a premium and costly, but necessary service. Most recently, Village Maintenance has pushed the salt into the salt barn with a Wheel Loader, which limits the amount of salt that can be stored in the barn. The joint purchase of the Salt Conveyor will allow Amberley Village and other jurisdictions to expand capacity by piling the salt higher, which in turn will enable more flexibility in the negotiation of rock salt purchases (see example photo at left).
The Salt Conveyor purchase involved eight jurisdictions on the East Side of Greater Cincinnati to ensure equal access to all communities. The Village's contribution to the purchase was $8,727, compared to $70,000, had the Village purchased it on its own. Thanks to our Maintenance Department for being great stewards of our tax dollars!

Clear Grass Clippings from Gutters
Property Maintenance During Rapid Growth Season
Grass clippings in the curb, such as those shown at left, can pose a threat to the Village stormwater system by clogging sewers, preventing drainage, and causing flooding. Each spring and summer, Amberley Village Maintenance Department spends countless hours clearing culverts, sewers and curbside drainage pipes of grass and yard debris. Please do your part to assist in keeping water flowing by clearing curbs and gutters of grass clippings and other yard debris.

Together, we can keep Amberley Village
a beautiful neighborhood in which to live!
If you know someone who is currently not receiving our emails, they may contact Clerk of Council Tammy Reasoner at tpreasoner@amberleyvillage.org with their name and email address, and we'll be happy to add them to our mailing list!
In response to resident concerns, Council adopted the Property Maintenance Code in 2007 that establishes standards for home maintenance as well as provides for enforcement of Code violations.
The Village requires properties to appear neat and uncluttered when viewed from the street, and to in no way present a nuisance or health hazard to neighbors or the public. For complete definitions and details, read through the Property Maintenance Code .
Reporting Violations
If you observe a poorly kept house or yard in your neighborhood, contact the Village Administration via email or call 531-8675, and they will handle it from there. For additional information regarding Amberley Village's Property Maintenance procedures, visit our website.

Brood X Cicadas Have Arrived!
Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) emphasizes importance of trees to cicadas
“Cicada egg-laying behavior can kill plant branches from the egg-laying site to the tips of the twigs, often resulting in wilted and discolored foliage becoming apparent in mid-summer,” said Macy. “Although this branch tip dieback may look like a major plant health concern, for most plants the damage is inconsequential.”
The so-called “Brood X” cicadas emerge when the soil eight inches beneath the ground reaches 64 degrees Fahrenheit. Shortly after emerging, cicadas climb a vertical surface, like tree trunks, shed their exoskeletons, and develop into winged adults.
“Periodical cicadas make themselves known with their sheer numbers and their constant cricket-like noise, which is the male ’singing’ to attract female cicadas,” said Tom Macy, manager of the ODNR Division of Forestry Forest Health Program. "Cicada chorusing is the loudest natural noise in the world."
After mating, female periodical cicadas use their saw-like ovipositors, or egg-laying appendages, to cut slits into the stems and branches of trees and shrubs. They will deposit dozens of eggs into the openings. Several weeks later, the tiny newly hatched nymphs drop to the ground and burrow into the soil, where they feed on tree and plant roots, and develop for 17 years.
Periodical cicadas are actually beneficial to wildlife as an excellent food source, especially for wild turkey and many other bird and mammal species. Pesticides and repellents are largely ineffective on periodical cicadas and are not warranted or recommended.
Delaying planting of trees and shrubs until after periodical cicadas are gone may be advisable. For newly planted trees and shrubs, netting or cheesecloth placed over them can help protect them from cicada damage.

Amberley Village is committed to keeping lines of communication open and accessible between residents and government officials. In this spirit, Amberley Village has incorporated Village-issued email addresses for Councilmembers into its digital communications protocol.
These measures unify the format, making it easier for residents to send a message when an issue comes to mind. The member's first initial followed by last name (no space) @amberleyvillage.org will get your message on its way to members of the Amberley Village Council.
