From the President

To the friends and family of Metaphrasis,

We are very excited for the fresh start that always comes with a new year. January is a perfect time to reflect on the year before and set new goals and resolutions for the coming year.

Did you make a resolution for 2023? One that I always recommended is learning a new language. There are so many benefits to learning a new language, including stronger cognitive skills, connecting with different people and cultures, and opening windows of opportunity across language barriers. I would love to hear from you about your new goals; reply to this email and let me know what you’re working towards this year!

As always, our team is welcoming the new year hard at work continuing to provide quality work and service to clients. We continue to add more languages to our roster and hire more interpreters. We anticipate an even higher demand for interpreters this year, and we are going to be ready to meet that need.

Now that so much of our life with COVID-19 is behind us, I can’t help but think about how everything is different. So many interpreters have exited the industry altogether, and many are requiring more and fairer compensation. As much as this shift has caused a shock in the industry, we stand behind our talented interpreters and continue to support them in this time.

It is also important for us to remember those who need a voice, an advocate, as they navigate this complex world. We recognize how essential the ability to be understood is, and we understand our role in providing that service for those who would otherwise be voiceless. Our work is important, if only to make sure that our clients feel heard and understood, regardless of the language they speak or the setting they’re in.

We are excited to go into another year doing the work we do with all of you.

Thank you,

INTERPRETER UPDATES

Friendly Reminders

As we move into a new year, we ask that you take a couple moments to refresh yourself on some best practices when taking accepting an assignment.

  • Make sure to verify location, date, and time of the assignment to ensure you are available to commit before clicking accept.

  • The day before your assignment, make sure to log in to the portal to see if any changes have been made to your assignment.

  • Reminder: if your appointment is cancelled, an email will be sent. It is the responsibility of the interpreter to stay up to date with the status of their assignments.

  • Do your best to close out your jobs the day you finish your appointment in order to not fall behind at the end of the month when close outs are due.

  • Remember to add your incidentals with closing your jobs including mileage, parking and tolls incurred along with the appropriate receipts for verification.
