Memorial Day

This Memorial Day, the SR-55 team honors those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Thank you for your service! In observance of the holiday, there will be no closures scheduled Friday, May 24 through Monday, May 27. Construction activities will resume Tuesday, May 28.

Construction Activities

Retaining Wall Construction

A new retaining wall is being constructed along the MacArthur Boulevard on-ramp to southbound

SR-55. Contractors are continuing to remove the existing wall and excavate for the foundation of the new wall.

Drainage System Construction

Crews are constructing a new drainage system adjacent to Ritchey Street, along southbound SR-55. Work throughout the next month will include excavation, backfilling and removal of the existing concrete box.

Railroad Bridge

Crews are currently drilling piles for the foundation at the railroad bridge under SR-55 and will continue installing piles. The work at this location is being closely coordinated with Metrolink to ensure the safety of passengers and crews working near the railroad.

About the Project

OCTA, in cooperation with Caltrans, is improving 4 miles of SR-55 between I-405 and I-5. The project will improve traffic flow and reduce travel time by adding one regular lane and one carpool lane in each direction. Also, the project will add merge lanes between several interchanges and stripe carpool lanes for continuous access, augmenting safety on the freeway by making merging easier. These enhancements are expected to create a better, smoother driving experience for motorists.
