Dr. Scott Sherwood
President of Nazarene Bible College
The Nazarene Bible College Board of Trustees elected Scott J. Sherwood as the sixth president of NBC. Sherwood, currently superintendent of the Northwestern Illinois District, will assume his duties as NBC president 1 July 2021. He will succeed Harold B. Graves Jr., who served as president of NBC for 15 years and will retire 30 June 2021.

"We are thrilled that God has provided a passionate, visionary, and innovative leader in Dr. Scott Sherwood," wrote NBC Board Chair Phillip Fuller.

The Board of General Superintendents nominated candidates to the Board of Trustees aided by a profile development as well as an extensive candidate search conducted by the Board's Executive Committee serving in a search committee role.

"Our prayer has been that God would bring clarity and unity in our work," Fuller said. "We believe fully that He has."

Sherwood was ordained on the Northwestern Illinois District in 1994. He graduated from Olivet Nazarene University with a Bachelor of Arts in biblical literature, a Master of Divinity from Nazarene Theological Seminary, an advanced graduate certificate in Wesleyan Pastoral Theology from NTS, a Doctor of Divinity Degree from ONU, and is projected to complete his Doctor of Ministry Degree at Fuller Theological Seminary this spring. He has served as an itinerant evangelist and as associate pastor in three Illinois churches (Rock Island, Chicago First, and Pekin). He was senior pastor in Bloomington, Illinois, and in Richardson, Texas. He has served as district superintendent since 2012.

"I am pleased with the election of Dr. Scott Sherwood as the next president of Nazarene Bible College," Graves said. "He has served the Church in many capacities and will bring strong and effective leadership to this new assignment. I believe the training of God's 'called ones' will be in capable hands with Dr. Sherwood leading NBC."

Scott Sherwood is married to Sherry (Fortado). They are parents to three adult daughters: Libby, Madeira, and Brooke.

NWIL - Camp Update
KIDS CAMP & TEEN CAMP 2021

Due to the current phase that Illinois regions are still in and are continuing to get vaccinations in place, we believe for the safety of our children and youth that Kids Camp & Teen Camp need to be cancelled this year. This was not an easy decision for our leadership to make. District leadership, NYI Council and SDMI Council met and made the best decisions for all involved.

EXCITING EVENTS ARE BEING PLANNED
With all of the above being said, NYI Council and Children's Ministry Council are in the process of planning outdoor one day events throughout the summer. As soon as all details are finalized, you will receive full information
NWIL - Funding the Mission & The Great Commission

For generations, Nazarenes have supported the World Evangelism Fund. Working together, we accomplish so much as the Body of Christ. Become a part of missions work and partner with the Church of the Nazarene to make Christlike disciples in the nations. In the Funding the Mission plan, the World Evangelism Fund is the vehicle through which we deliver the message of hope - and your church drives that mission.

Thank you for being faithful!

Despite an unusual year with a pandemic causing churches to hold their services online for part of it, the NWIL District was still faithful in giving to local and global missions. As a district, we gave $416,037.81 to the World Evangelism Fund. This amount exceeded our goal by $31,866.86. Thirty churches across the district overpaid their WEF goals with 23 of them receiving the Church of Excellence Award for paying 5.7% or more of their income.31 churches participated in Alabaster Offering, bringing in and sending out $12,101.68.

Several churches shared wonderful stories about how they ministered cross-culturally on both the local and international level. From adopting classrooms and assisting neighborhood school with their needs to funding international education projects. From donating items to a local children's hospital to collecting money for hospitals on foreign soil. From child sponsorship to corresponding to local addicts and inmates. From starting a community garden to aiding in clean water efforts in other countries. The people in our churches are serving local food pantries, Salvation Armies, the homeless, veterans, Foster care communities, pregnancy resource centers and many more community organizations as well as supporting and praying for our district and other Nazarene Missionaries,

Thank you for faithfully praying, serving and giving throughout the year. -Kristy Shreves

Bridgeway
BridgeWay's Easter Egg Hunt at the Marquette Heights Campus was a success for the community with a little over 200 people attending and thousands of eggs to hunt. Getting to celebrate as a kingdom family and meeting new families in the community of Marquette Heights made it a great experience.  We sectioned off different age groups with plenty of space for children to spread out and get tons of eggs. The live children's music and Easter story time, as well as a balloon artist and Easter crafts, provided extra activities for families to safely fellowship and celebrate this season together.  - Rev. Charlotte More

"Hood Raised - Jesus Saved"
Jenee Noriegawas born in Albuquerque, New Mexico in the roughest of circumstances. She was left by both of her parents at 2 months old. She was physically, mentally, emotionally, and sexually abused. By the age of 11, Jenee began using street drugs, which led to many years of criminal activity. By the age of 16, Jenee Noriega was on New Mexico's most wanted and had been arrested more than 24 times as a juvenile which incurred an extended adult record. She had 14 aliases when she was arrested by the F.B.I at 19 years old.

Jenee was facing a life sentence until one day, on March 6th, 2005, Jenee met Jesus. In the Urban Core of Albuquerque, NM, Jenee Noriega was led to the Lord by a lifelong Nazarene, Debbie Vanhook. Debbie loved Jesus and lost people. Jenee was delivered from a nineteen-year drug addiction that day. Her life was completely transformed, by the grace of God.

She currently is the Youth, Women, & Prison Pastor at a new church plant in the Urban Core of Kansas City named Total Life Church of the Nazarene. She served as the ABQ Central Campus Pastor at Sandia Church of the Nazarene, as well as their Street Ministry Director. Jenee was also the outreach Pastor at Rio Vista Church of the Nazarene. Jenee is the mother to 4 children and a wife of 29 years to her husband, Stevie. She is a first-generation college graduate of CNM and the University of New Mexico; double majoring in Psychology, and Africana studies. Jenee is currently a student at the Nazarene Theological Seminary obtaining her Master's degree. Jenee was Ordained as an Elder in the Nazarene denomination in the summer of 2019 on the Kansas City Church of the Nazarene District, and preaches, and teaches holiness.

Pastor Jenee has had the amazing opportunity to speak at women's conferences/retreats, youth conferences/camps, leadership events, and training events. Jenee has spoken to countless people about her faith in secular settings. She has traveled the world and the United States sharing the love of Jesus and teaching full deliverance through the message of Entire Sanctification.

Southside Community Center
When lockdown went into effect over a year ago, the leadership team at Southside Community Center (SCC) decided that they were going to be very intentional about relationships. They sat down and made a list of every family that was actively involved in all of SCC's ministries. The team wanted to be effective with the time and resources they had while still fulfilling the call to serve the community. Instead of trying to continue their normal ministries with restrictions, SCC decided to rethink all existing ministries by showing up at people's homes and in the local park. Instead of having people in the building for dinner church, they delivered meals to each home and were able to build much stronger and deeper relationships. Their Moms Group met at the local park where they met new people and built stronger relationships. Their children's summer programming went from 100 kids to 20 where they were able to call out the leaders in them and build stronger relationships. When we have intentional relationships with the people we love and serve we can have a profound effect on the kingdom. Southside's tagline is Transforming Community One Relationship At A Time

Intentional relationship building has allowed SCC to see remarkable transformation for their families in a year where many struggled. Several women from SCC's Pathway of Hope program were able to achieve remarkable transformation. One mom who was living in the housing authority was able to get a full-time job working from home. She and her boyfriend saved up enough money to move out and pay their rent on their new apartment for a year. She is also working on her high school diploma through SCC's Second Chance Diploma program. They are now saving for a down payment on a house. When a local church heard of her accomplishments someone in the congregation gifted her a van. Another one of the moms was able to get an entry level position at a local nursing home where they are paying for her to get her CNA certification and after that she plans on working on her LPN. There are other incredible stories of families moving out of public housing, getting full time jobs, and being full time students. None of this would have been possible without the Holy Spirit and intentional relationship building.

As SCC is reopening their doors again for the first time in almost a year the leadership team and families are stronger than ever because of the relationships they were able to build during quarantine. Many of us spent so much time focusing on getting back to normal we forgot to be the Church and live out the Great Commission. We are called to go into the world and make disciples of the nations. It is not always easy and is often times messy. The Nazarene church was founded in the trenches serving the community. If SCC would have spent a year trying to make what already existed work in the pandemic, they would not have grown in the past year they would have stayed the same. When the leadership team sat down and decided to be intentional about relationships, they had no idea the impact it would have on themselves and the community. Imagine what could happen if we rethink our normal, lean into discomfort and flow with the Holy Spirit. - Austin Smith, SCC Assistant Director

Church Multiplication Endowment Fund
Give a GIFT that doesn't stop Giving!

Would you give $1.00 a month if it never stopped giving, never wore out, never changed its usefulness or purpose and transformed lives?

How many times do we give a gift to someone only to see it discarded at a later date or discover it was never used as intended? Have you ever wanted to give a gift that would never grow old or wear out, that would always be used for good and made a difference for eternity? NOW you can!

Jesus said "But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal."

Would you partner with your Northwestern Illinois District's vision to plant churches?  You might wonder how you can make a difference or even be a part. Everyone can. We need some to plant, we need everyone to pray and we need many to invest.

The Church Multiplication Endowment Fund is designed to reach unreached people living on the NWIL District for Christ. Every dollar given will continue to give in perpetuity. An endowment fund uses the interest from the principle to do kingdom work.  Will you help fund this goal?

Currently, our district property funds have been invested in planting 22 new churches these past three years and the district is in need of capital to continue to plant more! We need your help. Presently, there are 36 more potential church plants in various stages of planning which will require additional funding support.

Help us reach our GOAL of planting 300 churches by 2030.  We see 300 churches as 3,000 disciplemakers who disciple 15,000 disciples gathering with 30,000 worshippers.  Every dollar you give will continue to reach people for Christ your whole lifetime and beyond.

Would you consider a GIFT of $1.00 a month?  We are not trying to take money from your local ministry where you give your tithes and offerings. We are asking for many to give a little.  Our initial goal is 5,000 giving at least $1.00 a month. Would you be one of those 5,000 making a commitment to create a movement to plant churches that change lives?  Here are ways to give:

 1. You can give to your local church by marking your check or cash gift "NWIL CM Endowment" and your church treasurer will take it from there.

 2. You can also choose to give online if you want to set up one time or reoccurring payments using debit/credit/Electronic Check on the district website at nwilnaz.org/GIVE/ On District Church Planting or direct  CM Endowment Giving LINK. Or scan this QR code at the bottom of this article.

3. You can send a check or cash to NWIL District, 3520 Broadway St., Pekin, IL 61554 (please indicate CM Endowment on check memo)

We are also looking for those who might like to make greater kingdom investments!

You can give cash, stocks, bonds, real estate, livestock, grain, or other personal property.  Basically, any asset of marketable value can be used to help fund this endowment. There are also charitable gift annuity options that allow you to specify the endowment fund or another ministry of your choice while allowing you to receive income for your lifetime and when you pass, your gift goes to the endowment fund or specified ministryCLICK HERE  to see other ways to model generosity. Gifts can be given in memory or in honor of someone.

Large or small: Why not leave a lasting legacy that lasts more than your lifetime.
