March 2024

As we bid farewell to winter's chill and welcome the warmth of the sun, let's take a moment to celebrate the arrival of spring—a season of renewal, growth, and fresh beginnings. But amidst the excitement of blossoming flowers and longer days, let's also remember to prioritize something equally important: our physical and mental well-being. Let's make it a season of flourishing health and happiness.

Women's History Month

As we celebrate Women's History Month and International Women's Day (celebrated on March 11), we honor the invaluable contributions of women to the field of healthcare. From the pioneers who revolutionized medical and nursing care, to contemporary leaders advancing medical research and patient care like our providers at WCHC, women have played a pivotal role in shaping the healthcare landscape throughout history. Let's celebrate the invaluable contributions of these women who have and continue to revolutionize patient care, paving the way for progress and healing for all.

Community Connections

WCHC at Edgewood EPICENTER

On Tuesday, March 5, WCHC officially kicked off our partnership with the EPICENTER in Edgewood! Our staff will be onsite for enrollment events every Tuesday & Thursday during the month of March from 10AM-2PM and then will begin providing care services beginning in April! A special thanks to APGFCU and Seedco Maryland for partnering with us on these events!

CCPS Multilingual Family Resource Fair

This month, WCHC team members participated in the second annual Multilingual Family Resource Fair hosted by Cecil County Public Schools. We joined community organizations from across Cecil County to offer resources and support to families from various linguistic backgrounds.

Wellness Fairs

WCHC team members participated in multiple wellness fairs this month including Cecil College's Wellness Fair and Terumo Medical Corporation's Winter Wellness Series. During these events we engaged with individuals from these organizations to promote physical and mental health and well-being. It was an honor to join these organizations as they foster a culture of wellness.

WCHC staff participated in the Rising Sun Middle School Career Fair, connecting with eighth graders to inspire and inform them about potential career paths in healthcare. Our team members enjoyed the opportunity to share their passion and expertise to inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals and contribute to their career exploration journey.

WCHC Board of Directors

As a Federally Qualified Health Center, WCHC’s Board of Directors is comprised of at least 51% of patients of the health center. We are grateful for the dedication of our board members who provide guidance on all aspects of how WCHC serves our community.

Our board members are actively engaged in the governance and strategic vision of WCHC and help further the mission of the organization through attendance at monthly meetings and service on a variety of specialty committees that help increase access to care for those in our surrounding communities.

Mental Health Matters

Helping to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.

This month, during the week of March 18th-24th, National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week is observed to raise awareness about drugs, alcohol, and addiction. Addiction manifests differently in individuals and is not indicative of poor morals or willpower. The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) defines addiction as a primary, chronic disease of brain reward, motivation, memory, and related circuitry. Addiction does not discriminate; it can affect anyone regardless of their identity, whether they're a parent, friend, coworker, or oneself.

Unfortunately, these facts provide a very real perspective on the number of individuals who are suffering. Due to the way drugs affect the brain, recovery may require more than just a strong will. Recovery from substance abuse is absolutely possible with the right treatment. There are various treatment options available that have proven to be effective in helping individuals overcome addiction. If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction, please contact our office at (410) 378-9696 to review our options or to be connected to our external resources.

A Note for Patients:

The Clinical & Group Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) Survey

Over the next several months, a company named DataStat/MDPCP (Maryland Primary Care Program) may send you a survey in the mail (or email) on behalf of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

Maryland Primary Care Program evaluates practices on the results of these surveys.

Your opinion is important to us. If you receive a survey in the mail, please complete the survey as soon as possible. Your feedback will help inform how we can better provide services to our patients.

Participation in this survey is voluntary and anonymous. Our practice will not see individual results or receive notification of the patients who participated in the survey. DataStat will provide our practice with a summary of the results upon completion.
