Monthly Eagle Family Newsletter
Your Monthly Message from Principal Herman...
Hello Eagle Families!

I hope the break was restful and your student is ready to hop back in for the final push before the end of the semester! This is a great time to encourage your student to check in with their teachers to make sure they finish strong. Please partner with us in helping encourage your kids to stay on top of their academic obligations and learning. Thanks, Eagle Families!

Finals will be the week of January 22nd, with first semester ending Friday, Jan 26th.
There will be no school Monday, Jan 15th in observance of MLK day, and no school for students on Monday, Jan 29th for a Teacher Inservice Day.

We had a wonderful time bringing our AHS student body together for a Winter Spirit Assembly right before break. And, we are really looking forward to bringing them together for a different purpose this Thursday to recognize Martin Luther King, Jr. with our guest speaker, Keith Davis.

Reach out to your student's counselor, admin, or teachers if we can help with anything! #ahsflyeaglesfly

• Prop. 2: Capital levy renewal
• Prop. 3: Middle School Bond

NEWS YOU CAN USE!
FINAL OPPORTUNITY TO ORDER A YEARBOOK
Yearbooks are on sale in person and online from January 17-January 31. $65 each. This is your final opportunity to order a yearbook.....some additional books will be available for sale at $70 in June, but we have run out the last two years, so don't be left out!

You can check whether you have already purchased a yearbook by asking at the ASB window or emailing Jessica Angel.
Food Services: You may notice that the portal for making online payments to your student's food service account looks a little different this year. We're now using TouchBase for processing these payments, and if you already have a TouchBase login you're ready to sign in and make payments. If you don't have a login it will take just a few minutes to set it up. Please go to wa-arlington.intouchreceipting.com and follow the instructions to create your password (your username is the same one you use for Skyward Family Access). Automatic payments that were set up in the old system will not carry forward. Online payments are not posted to food service accounts in real time, but they are updated several times throughout the day and should be reflected in the account balance no later than 7:30 am the following day.
STUDENT CLUBS/ACTIVITIES
Herr/Monsieur Mendro's German and French classes created "St. Nicholas" shoes once again this year on December 5th, and St. Nick made a detour from "Deutschland" to bring them "Bonbons," which were waiting in their shoes on December 6. The attached picture shows the top 4 creations, as voted on by all classes. The winning shoe was the long, striped elf shoe, created by Reese "Margaux" Baggen, a junior in Monsieur Mendro's French 3 class.

Yarn Club will be a place to learn, a place to work and a place to be inspired. Meets Mondays and Thursdays from 2:30-3:30.

Character Strong - It Takes All of US!
This season, my family came up with 25 activities leading up to the holidays and then we select one from our calendar each night as a surprise. They are activities that all six of us can do together, like playing a specific board game, talking a winter walk, or watching a family movie...

The Family Character Dare of the Month is...

For our teens, our Weekly Character Dare is generally posted in the Commons, but we also share it on social media via @AHSFlyEaglesFly (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) where we have over 6,000 subscribers who can view these dares daily. By working on these dares together and talking about them, we grow closer and more connected. The kids get this opportunity together in Friday's Every Eagle Advisory. The Staff have Weekly Dares too! The more WE do as adults, the more THEY do as kids. Family Dares simply tie it all together... here's Character Strong's C.A.R.E approach! It's a fun, simple approach to building Every Eagle's Commitment, Patience, Humility, Selflessness, Kindness, Respect, Honesty and Forgiveness - traits that lead to success beyond AHS. Enjoy your monthly Family Dares!
