FROM THE SENIOR WARDEN
New faces joined in with returning Vestry members at the April Vestry meeting held earlier this week, and there was a palatable sense of eagerness for this church year and for the ongoing work of our parish. We welcomed Bryan Hawkins, Ian McQueen, and Rex Teeslink, while bidding adieu (great Wordle starting word) and saying “thank you” to Laurie Montgomery and Ashley Wright.

The Evangelism Committee was pleased with the reception of the outdoor broadcast of recent Sunday services for Riverwalk passers-by. Given the success of this trial run, we plan to continue and will add tables so we can provide water, brochures, and other items.

The Buildings & Grounds Committee is excited about the soon-to-start renovation of the Tyler Hall kitchen, more details of which will soon be shared with the congregation by the Capital Campaign Committee. Speaking of the grounds, many of you are aware of the years of care Keith Shafer has given to the churchyard and it continues with he and his team of volunteers that work in the churchyard gardens every Wednesday (volunteers are happily accepted-no green thumb required). In support of that work, the Vestry approved using funds from our Columbarium account to enhance some of the hardscapes, including some overdue attention to the scatter garden in the Colonial Chapel.

The Vestry approved a Memorial Policy in the form and content that was presented to the congregation earlier. The Vestry remains committed to the Polk cenotaph discussion being deliberate, transparent, and open. Having a policy with procedures is a crucial first step to provide guidance and steps so that new memorials are accepted, and existing memorials can be reviewed with openness, respect and sober deliberation.

This weekend the Vestry meets for its retreat, and we are looking forward to fellowship and the hard work of addressing the next steps for the Polk cenotaph, and more importantly, the implementation of the goals and strategies outlined in the Strategic Plan. Our goal is for Vestry members to know where they fit in the execution of the Strategic Plan and then how to incorporate the energy and talents of the congregation into achieving the outlined goals.

The Good News of the Apocalypse: the Revelation to John as gospel

This Easter season, the second reading each Sunday comes from the Revelation to John--one of the most misunderstood and most frequently misused books in the bible. At 9:30 each Sunday we'll gather to explore how the Apocalypse, or Revelation, communicates the good news of God in our Lord Jesus Christ.
Godly Play (grades PK - 3rd)
9:30 AM -10:30 AM
In the Children's Ministry Center
This Sunday we will have our monthly “Meet Saint Paul’s.” This month the children will meet Hilary Bryant, our beloved sexton and good friend. This gathering will be an opportunity for Hilary to teach the kids about all the things that happen behind the scenes to keep worship, ministries, and life running at Saint Paul’s. Hopefully, Hilary will take us on a little field trip and show us some of the cool spots they don’t normally see. This is also an excellent opportunity for the children to make a personal connection with church staff and leadership and for adults and children in the parish to form intergenerational friendships.

For more information, contact Kim Butler or Ivey Coleman.
Spark: (grades 4- 6) "Look at the Gospels”
9:30 AM -10:30 AM
In the Children's Ministry Center
Our older children will continue to "Look at the Gospels” of Jesus’ life and ministry. His parables, miracles and teachings are displayed with posters, colored drawings, and miniature models. They are also studying the many wonders of the Old Testament through the first seven books of the Bible.

Each Sunday using the Spark Curriculum we follow a five-part pattern: gather, read the scriptures, discuss its meaning, pray and play “Who dat?” (“Who dat” is a game of Bible trivia based on what they have already learned).

For more information, contact Susie Culbreth or

LOOKING AHEAD
New Adult Formation – 3 sessions in May,
no homework!
Zoom meetings on Tuesday (May 10, 17, 24) 7:30-8:30 PM
Why do readers read and travelers travel? Why do thinkers think and dancers dance? Why do we hope, gather, pray, and celebrate? The answer, according to author Brian McLaren, is that we are human beings seeking the "aliveness" described in the New Testament as "life in Christ" and "the kingdom of God." Join us for an hour on Tuesday nights for an informal, yet illuminating, look at We Make the Road by Walking. Questions? Contact Kitty Gordon.
