|
September is library card sign-up month, and for NH libraries it means...game on! Every year libraries compete to sign up the most new patrons in September. Meredith’s highest rank was third...but this year we want to be number one! Please help us get the word out and steer your friends, family and neighbors to get their library card. We have some exciting September events to lure them in.

Beginners' Beekeeping
Thursday, Sep. 8, 6:00PM
The popularity of beekeeping has grown with a realization of our dependence on honey bees for successful crop harvests and world-wide concerns for lost species of pollinators. Some look to beekeeping for the rare opportunity it gives us to interact with an intelligent, fascinating insect; but is beekeeping for you? Join us for an overview of what it takes to be a beekeeper in New Hampshire with its short growth season and long winters, features that in today's world may provide an advantage to survival of this ancient marvel of evolution. Presented by Carroll County Adult Education's Athena Contus, who has been raising bees in the Sandwich Mountain Range for 15 years. Athena is a Certified Master Beekeeper and instructor of Carroll Academy's annual fall course: "Modern Beekeeping & The Ancient Honey Bee".

Meet the Artist Series: Paul Foote and Keith Demanche
Thursday, September 22, 6:30PM
Our partnership with the Lakes Center for Arts continues with another Meet the Artist Series presentation featuring two artists: Paul Foote and Keith Demanche. Their work is on display in the library's Function Room until September 30. This evening they will be presenting their work and discussing their art forms.
"In my work I hope to show others what I see, the natural places of quiet hope in man’s chaotic world," says Plein Air artist Keith Demanche. Demanche will be teaching classes in an outdoor environment next month for the library.
"I have always enjoyed drawing and later hand-sculpting and wheelwork with clay. The physical process begins when I take raw, found, and unused material and transforming it into something new that fulfills my need to create," says collage artist Paul Foote. Please be sure to sign up for Paul's Collage With Hand Painted and Ready Made Papers class on September 27.
Sponsored by the Lakes Center for the Arts, NH State Council on the Arts, CDFA, and the Friends of the Meredith Library.
