“There’s No Time!”
Rev. Stevie K. Carmody
Sunday, 10:45 AM
If someone asked you if you had a moment to contemplate and rest, might you respond, “There’s no time!”? Me, too. Many of us have been there, at least sometimes, grinding it out here in capitalism—caregivers, parents, laborers, teachers, workers, students, organizers, nurses, and others. Join Rev. Stevie as we explore rest and contemplation, not as solitary endeavors, but as something we create in community together.

Minister's Study Leave
Dear UUCH,
I hope you are finding time for rest and fun during this hot and rainy summer. I wanted to give you an update on my summer schedule and plans. This coming week, I will be taking study leave time to participate in SUUSI, one of our UU Summer Camps. You can learn more about SUUSI here (https://www.suusi.org/index). I’m leading one of the worship services during the week, participating in other programming, and will also be spending time reading and studying to prepare for future sermons! Like I have shared before, when I am on study leave I do not respond to emails. So please be patient, and I will get back to you when I return.
While on study leave, I am available to help in case of a pastoral emergency, which is something like a death in your family, a serious and unexpected hospitalization, or a traumatic event like a house fire. If you need me for something like that, you can call the office and Holly will get in touch with me, or you can send me an email, and my out-of-office responder will have instructions on how to reach me directly. I hope no one has anything like this happen, but please know that if it does, I will support you in any way I can.
For the rest of the summer, I am focusing on hiring our new staff, getting us ready to return to in-person worship in September, and I’ll probably squeeze in a week of vacation sometime in August. I will be preaching some weeks, and we have a slate of fabulous guests coming to visit us virtually.
I know we are all anxious and excited to be back together in person. But we’ve made it this far, so I know we can make it the last few weeks while we renovate our Sanctuary and get set up to live stream. As long as case numbers continue to stay low, it will only be SEVEN MORE SUNDAYS! For now, I encourage you to try out some of our safe in-person gatherings throughout the summer, and I look forward to meeting you all in person very soon!
Blessings,
Rev. Jaimie

Important Updates on UUCH COVID-19 Policy
We are all excited that COVID-19 cases are decreasing in our area and that we can begin to gather in person in limited ways. Officially, we are now in the “Yellow” tier of the church’s policy (see this link for the latest complete tier guidelines). The UUCH Board is constantly monitoring local rates, CDC guidelines, and new scientific information to ensure we are making decisions that keep our church vibrant and safe. Our dynamic policy will require ongoing review and calibration as we move forward.
Two new updates to note:
- Given low levels of testing in our area, “Positivity Rates” are not providing the information we need to regulate safety measures in our policy. Therefore, “Positivity Rate” will be removed as a metric, and our policy will rely on Madison County Case Rates as our primary measure for decisions to move between tiers.
- Given the advice of the CDC, we ask that people who are not vaccinated wear a mask at church functions. Our community is full of folks who are immunocompromised, children under the age of 12, and others who are vulnerable or unable to be vaccinated. We strongly encourage all who are able to do so to get vaccinated. Those who are vaccinated should follow the policy for guidelines on when to wear a mask. There is no greater sign of a beloved community than when each of us does our part to ensure the health and safety of all. Safety is the responsibility of each of us, so please continue to follow safe practices such as handwashing, safe distancing when appropriate, and monitoring your health before attending church events. We look forward to the time, perhaps in September, when we can enter the “Green” tier of our policy and widen our ability to enjoy each other’s company in person. Until then, we hope that you will participate in and enjoy church events to the degree that is comfortable for you.

Chancel Renovation Update
The new chancel area is taking shape! The contractor has removed all of the old chancel area material and has begun the framing for the new chancel stage. The contractor is on track for completion prior to our planned first in-person worship service in September!
Note that the chancel area is a hazardous work area, so please stay out of that area if you are at church.

Singing Activity this Summer at UUCH!
Wednesdays
7:00 PM – 8:30 PM
We’re singing together again! While our regular choir is on summer break, and compliant with the new COVID-19 rules passed by our Board, we will have an informal singing activity in person at the church on Wednesday evenings, 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM, beginning June 30. Tim and Theresa Miller will lead the “summer singers” with guitar and ukulele accompaniment of some of our favorite songs. All ages are welcome! For more information and to help give us an idea of how many singers will be joining us, please email music.committee@uuch.org or call Tim or Theresa.

Little Food Pantry
We need signups!!
Please sign up to fill the LFP. It’s odd, but folks aren’t taking lentils or black beans. The canned black beans are being donated to needy Hispanic families.
If you can’t fill a M, W, F or Sunday spot on the sign up genius, you can always drop food by on T, T or Sat. Thanks for everyone who is lending a helping hand.

Care List
This Sunday at Our Circle of Candles:
Barbara Hitt lit a candle of joy: We just returned from a trip to Africa with our daughter and granddaughter to celebrate our granddaughter’s graduation. The trip had been postponed for a year due to COVID-19. We are thankful for a safe and healthy return, and for the COVID-19 vaccine and health professionals who made it possible for us to go.
LaDawn Edwards lit a candle of joy: I took my mother, Kether, to get a library card last week. She has been reading novels voraciously ever since!
Jessica Schulz lit a candle of joy: It was a joy to visit my family in San Diego last week.
Becky E. and Nancy F. lit a candle of joy: Joy that our daughter, Abby, will be moving to Chicago this week for her new research internship. But we will miss her.
Theresa and Tim Miller lit a candle of concern: Prayers requested for my (Theresa) sister, Janet, who is in the hospital having breathing difficulties and AFib. She’s had some problems ever since she had COVID-19 this Feb.
Willie R. (He/him/Men Deserve Less) lit a candle of sorrow: My condolences to you Jaimie.
Kathy Fisher lit a candle of sorrow: I’m so sorry about your grandmother, Jaimie. Love to you and all the family.
