Catch Up on the Latest Blog Posts from Chesterfield On Point
As we come to the end of National Water Safety Month, the statistics are sobering:

* 70% of Black children and 66% of Black adults do not know how to swim
* 79% of children from low-income families do not know how to swim
* Drowning is the No. 2 cause of accidental death for those under the age of 14, and No. 1 for those under the age of 4 and for children with autism

Rather than merely lament the situation, though, SwimRVA is doing something about it. Through its Learn to Swim program, the local nonprofit has provided free swim lessons to thousands of children from underserved communities in Chesterfield and across the region over the past seven years – and demand from schools hoping to participate in the program increases annually.

Adoptable Pet Spotlight
This is Muffin!

Muffin is a 3-year-old Pitbull/Hound Mix who weighs 29 lbs. She is a lovable, kind, loyal little lady! She loves cuddles and laying in your lap. Muffin smiles when she’s happy (which is most of the time).

She is a tad selective with which dogs she likes so a meet and greet with other dogs is a must! She is pretty low-key so she likes other low-key pup friends. Muffin is also potty trained already!
If you are interested in meeting this pet, please contact Chesterfield County Animal Services at 804-748-1683, option "2," to schedule an appointment. Office staff are available by phone 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. The shelter is located at 9300 Public Works Road, Chesterfield, VA 23832.
