Fr. Brian Doerr was born in February of 1965, in Enid, OK, as his father was training in the US Air Force. Later his family settled on a small farm east of Pendleton, IN. He graduated from Purdue University in 1987 with a degree in Agriculture Economics. Following college he worked as a staff member for Senator Richard G. Lugar in Washington, DC, and later for the Indiana House of Representatives.
Responding to a call to the priesthood Fr. Doerr received when he was seven years old, he attended the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, OH, graduated in 1998, and was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Lafayette. His first assignment was as Associate Pastor of St. Joan of Arc Church in Kokomo, Indiana.
He then served as the Director of Vocations for the Lafayette Diocese from 2000 to 2011 and as Vice Rector of Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg, Maryland, from 2011 to 2016. He had the opportunity to celebrate a weekly Mass for the Daughters of Charity in Emmitsburg, and did so in the basilica (and on the tomb) of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Before coming to St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Carmel, he served as the pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Church on the campus of Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.
Fr. Doerr is the co-founder of the Frassati Society of Young Adult Catholics, Chaplain and Co-Creator of the Knights of the Holy Temple, founder of Those Catholic Men and Exodus 90, is a member of the Knights of Columbus and served on the Board of Wilderness Outreach.
When not ministering in the church, he enjoys canoeing, camping, history, reading, hiking and retreats to the Appalachian Mountains. After ten years of research, he published “The Massacre at Deer Lick Creek,” in the Indiana Magazine of History in the Spring of 1997.

Starting Jan. 1, 2021, our annual dues for an individual reduced from $300 to $240, and couples from $450 to $420. In and of itself this is not a large reduction but we will no longer charge members a $15 fee for monthly club dinner meetings. It is now included in your dues. Dues will continue to be billed quarterly.

• Members will continue to be charged for special events like the Seminarian Christmas Dinner based on attendance.
• Members under the age of 35 will be assessed $140 annually, billed quarterly.
• Active Archdiocesan employees will be assessed $200 annually, billed quarterly.
• We reach out to those members who are not financially constrained and ask that you make an annual or quarterly donation, in addition to your dues, to support our club’s vocation efforts and activities.
Luke 12:48 “Much will be required of the person entrusted with much, and still more
will be demanded of the person entrusted with more.”
Why are we changing the dues structure?
The Serra Club of Indianapolis is strong and blessed with many faithful dedicated members. Each year, we sponsor a variety of events that support our mission to nurture the call to the priesthood, diaconate, and consecrated life in our Archdiocese.
Maintaining our current members and adding new members are an on-going challenge that every organization faces. As we strive for greater diversity and increased representation from our parishes, we are faced with some obstacles, one is our dues structure. Serra Clubs throughout the world need funds to conduct their mission work. Some clubs use fundraisers to support their work. We depend solely on our dues and we believe most members prefer to keep it that way, but dues should not be an impediment to membership and service. Paying dues is voluntary, not mandatory for membership.
How are dues allocated?
A portion of our dues is not under our control. To be a member of Serra International, each club is assessed $92 for an individual and $138 for a couple annually. These funds support the work of Serra International and Serra USA, which support the local clubs with resource materials, organizational structure and guidance. Clubs are required to pay these fees. The remainder of the funds are used to finance the club’s annual programs and activities.
