THE CHAPELINE - May 24, 2022

FROM Rev. Brock Patterson

"Sandy Beaches"

Hello Chapel family! Memorial Day is upon us which means that summer is here!

I used to have summertime dreams of beaches and crystal-clear water. Now that I live at the beach full-time, I would have thought that my dreams of beaches would have faded. They haven't. I still dream of the beaches, but now I dream of a beach that won't track sand on my newly-swept tile floors. I'm much more concerned with sand creeping into uncomfortable places than actually enjoying a walk along the beach. Truth be told, I actually avoid the beach just because I don't want to clean up the sand.

Isn't that terrible? When I speak to family and friends, they often ask, "Do you go to the beach every day?" Unfortunately, I don't give them the affirmative answer they expect.

I'm not sure if this means that I have officially become a beach-dweller or that I can officially be called a "Dud". One of God's greatest creations is in front of me yet I still hesitate because it makes me vulnerable to some occasional discomfort.

There's a lesson in there, somewhere. But is the lesson to not overlook the obvious blessings God provides? Or, is the lesson to not worry about becoming vulnerable to the new blessings God brings? Either way, we come out ahead because God is always providing for us.

Summer has arrived! Don't forget to give thanks to the LORD, every day! We have plenty of reasons (in addition to the sandy beaches) to be thankful!

God Bless. Brock
