We Remember
Remembrance Day is a day for all Canadians to remember the men and women who served and sacrificed for our country. The Remembrance Day Ceremony has played a major role in Remembrance since 1931. Every year, at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, we gather in memorial parks, community halls, workplaces, schools and homes to stand in honour of all who have fallen. Aunt Nelda's Terrific Sausage Ball Recipe
Stephen was excited to try one of his aunt's favourite recipes this week. Stephen made this recipe for dinner, but it also makes a great appetizer. With the holidays coming, why not try out the below recipe?

Ingredients
1 lb ground pork sausage
2 cups biscuit baking mix
1 lb sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
1/3 cup water

Preheat oven to 350oF. In a bowl, combine sausage, biscuit baking mix, cheese and water. Form into walnut size balls and place on a baking sheet. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and sausage is cooked through.

A Virtual Supports Poem
Suddenly everything we knew
Was every shade of black and blue
It felt like a bruise to our hearts
And we had no idea where to start
Stuck at home, no friends to hear
The day was missing lots of cheer
COVID was cruel, it stole our fun
It felt like there was no more sun
Then some people came over to visit
It doesn’t even seem possible, does it?
But they came to visit on our computers
Like having our own, personal tutors
it was magic and crazy and to this day
Tenzi and Farkle and Zoom games we play
It was a lifeline, these Virtual Supports
From music and lunch, to movies and sports
What would we have done, without all these choices
And hearing all of these different voices
Though this past year has been distressing
Virtual Supports has been the ultimate Blessing
Ensemble: A Resource for Families
Ensemble is a parent-directed resource for families caring for a child with a disability that provides support from birth through adulthood. The name, Ensemble, is French for “together” and was chosen for the strength and resiliency found in the connections built between families and within the community.

Ensemble inspires possibilities for children by promoting family leadership so that families thrive and become active members in the community.

Ensemble was founded in 2000 by two moms whose lives have been affected by their children’s diagnosis of a disability. These moms understood the importance of connecting to others as the first step in helping families cope with the challenges of raising a child with a disability.

Feeling Down, Looking Up:
Mental Health and Down Syndrome
Individuals with Down syndrome and their caregivers have a heightened risk of mental health difficulties including anxiety, depression, elevated stress levels, and more. Over the past few years, the Down Syndrome Resource Foundation has introduced mental health support for people with Down syndrome and their families.

Feeling Down, Looking Up examines mental health through the eyes of four families (including two self-advocates), who generously share their personal journeys.

Feeling Down, Looking Up also features motion graphics created by Joe Woloshyn, who just happens to have Down syndrome (and a dad who's a major motion picture special effects professional).
