A message from our Missions Pastor

Hey Legacy Family,

We had a phenomenal month of June in Missions, and I just want to take a moment to testify how the Lord was able to use us as a church last month!

Our Real Options Baby Shower Campaign was a big success. We gave enough to bless seven mothers with baby supplies and children bibles, which will assist them in the first stages of life as they raise their children. We heard feedback on how taken back the mothers were because of the love and support shown by our church family. Thank you, Lori Price and Jacky Johnson for leading us throughout this campaign. Please take a look at the pictures and campaign summary in the Celebrate the Wins section of this newsletter.

We had an opportunity to assist a ministry Gene Wilkes introduced to our church called One Mission Ministries. This ministry is based in Matamoros, Mexico and is an urban ministry that uses Hip Hop music to reach those who need Christ, especially those in the Cartel. Currently they are assisting asylum seekers escaping horrible situations from their home countries and are housing close to 300 people. We were able to assist with a financial gift that will help aid those living in these shelters. Gene and I had an eye-opening experience in a discovery trip we made to the mission. I am so grateful for your generosity because we were able to help those in desperate need.

I want to give a shout out to LegacyKid's Ministry and their volunteers! Thank you, for introducing our church to Connect Camp! This was a great missional opportunity for us to open our doors to over 100 kids. Because of this missional camp there were salvation conversations and a gospel presentation presented to 40 or more kids not connected to a church. To God be the Glory!

Speaking of opening doors, we recently opened up our doors Thursday evenings for a Brazilian ministry to be birthed here, in our building. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but we have had 30 to 40 Brazilians attending our Sunday services, which has been awesome, but also a language barrier for them. The lead pastors asked if they could meet in our facility and after much prayer, we said yes. Let us keep this fellowship in our prayers as they reach out to more Brazilians here in the Plano area.

We have a lot of things happening here at Legacy and I am praying that the Lord continues to guide and lead us. May His hand continue to guide and direct our external posture here at Legacy Church. I have barely scratched the surface, so please continue to read this newsletter to see all that the Lord is doing here and through Legacy!!

Blessings,
Patrick Iga

“Christmas in July” is coming to Legacy Church!
Operation Christmas Child - Where Every Season is Shoebox Season

What better way to forget about the heat than to focus on others! We are jumpstarting the Operation Christmas Child (OCC) Campaign in a new way. Starting July 25th through August 1st, our Legacy Santa’s helpers will be passing out OCC “head start” shoeboxes after church service. Rumor has it that there will be cookies (Santa’s favorite of course) on July 25th! If you miss our Sunday service, you can also pick up shoeboxes from 9am-4,pm July 26th - July 29th at the church office.

The GREAT news - you do not return your boxes for months! Box collections will still begin in late October, giving us time to truly enjoy this service opportunity. Plus, shop as seasonal items go on sale; stretch your dollar while filling shoeboxes to bless children this Christmas! Insider Information: There will be prizes awarded in November to the highest shoebox counts returned!!!

New to Operation Christmas Child? Welcome and YAY! In short, the Mission of OCC is “To demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to needy children around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.” See How to pack a shoebox, as well as OCC Packing FAQs and information about The Greatest Journey!!!

 “Spiritual” Food for Thought:
  1. No child receives more than one shoebox in his or her lifetime, for most - it is their first EVER gift!
  2. Over 9 million children received gifts with Gospel booklets worldwide in over 170 countries in 2020!
  3. Boxes move year-round by train, plain, automobile, ships, canoe, camel, alpaca, donkey and even on foot!
  4. If every Legacy household packed only 2 shoeboxes, we could reach ~500 kids in 2021!   (But Jesus said, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children.” Matthew 19:14 (NLT))

Be sure to look for upcoming monthly “Tips and Tricks” of friendly suggestions on shopping and packing in our August through November newsletters!
Impact Opportunities

Similar to VBS, we also fell short of volunteers to host the July 11th food packing event for the 20,000 meals for Haiti. Therefore we have cancelled the event until our volunteer numbers return back to normal.

Don't forget about our school supply drive. We have an Amazon Registry set-up for easy shopping - check it out!
Prayer Initiatives
Our partners' top 3 prayer requests have been updated for the month of July.

We encourage you to refer back to and read about our newly added countries, Brazil, India, Israel, and Palestine, and our local and global partners' prayer petitions on our Prayer Initiatives website.
Celebrate the Wins

Thanks to your faithful giving, in addition to our monthly giving to our mission partners, we celebrate:
  • One Missions Ministries - $3,000 to help care for the refugee children and families on our Mexico border
  • Hearts-4-Mexico - $5,000 to assist with budget shortfall due to Covid related issues.
  • Heavenly Bridge Ministries - $5,80o to supply 150 Pastors in Uganda with Bibles in two needed dialects ($2,250) and to complete the Legacy Center, their training facility ($3,550)

One Missions Ministries
Pastor Patrick and Dr. Gene Wilkes went on a discovery mission trip late June to the Mexican border to learn more about One Missions Ministries. The trip was successful and very informative.

Abraham and Patty Barberi have been actively involved doing missionary work in Matamoros, Mexico and other border towns since July of 2000. In 2009 they moved to Matamoros, Mexico where they have planted several churches, and started Bible Institutes in Matamoros, El Salvador, and Ecuador (Central, and South America). They have developed several food pantries, soup kitchens, water distribution in low-income communities, and a shelter for asylum seekers in Matamoros, Mexico.

They presently pastor “Comunidad Esencia Urbana,” a Hip Hop church that works with ex-cartel members, and young men and women who are trapped in drugs and alcohol.
Real Options Baby Shower
Thank you Legacy Church family for purchasing gifts to bless seven women and their unborn children. Five women attended the shower and were greatly touched by all the time, efforts, and generosity given to them.

A special thank you to Lori Price and Jacky Johnson for leading this project and for all the volunteers that served with them, sorting the gift items, preparing for the shower, and for serving at the shower as well. Whether participating by purchasing gifts, serving behind the scenes or at the shower, or praying with the moms at the Prayer Station, Pastor Patrick's prayer is that our kindness as a church preaches the Gospel to the hearts of these women and their families.

Relationships have started and seeds have been planted. One young lady attended with her dad who had encouraged her to abort. He cried as volunteers loaded up his truck, thanking them over and over for all that was being done to help his daughter.
Seed Company
The Hunsrik 3 project - Matthew, Mark, Acts, Romans, 1-2 Corinthians, and Galatians in print, audio, and digital formats - will be completed this year as a result of your faithful giving.

Hunsrik is the second most spoken language in Brazil. As such, Scripture in that mother tongue will potentially reach many people. Most people identify themselves as Christians, but because of a lack of Scripture in their language (the first translated Scriptures were finished just a few years ago) they do not have a strong understanding of Jesus in the Bible.
Belle & Sparrows Work Project
Thank you to Legacy volunteers Bruce Walpole, Aaron Osborne, Craig Barber, Shane May, Steve Crowe, Tim Jones, Graham Gibson, Matt Vinson, Courtney Walpole, and Nate Rodgers for all the work they did in the office space for Belle & Sparrows.
Podcasts
Coming this fall...a series of podcasts. Conversations about things we’re thinking about, things we care about, and things important to the life and culture of our Legacy Church families.

Stay tuned!!
