You will also experience a word from Commissioner Doreen Williams, personal recovery stories and information on how to support the Rockdale County Stepping Up Initiative in our ongoing efforts to reduce the number of people in the criminal justice system with mental health and substance use challenges.
COMMISSIONER'S CORNER
In honor of Mental Health Awareness month Commissioner Doreen Williams shares some health recovery practices. She also provides a monthly recap for the Rockdale County recovery community and their partners, allies and stakeholders. In this months recap Commissioner Williams also gives insight on the progress that the Stepping Up Initiative's team has been making with our newest project, Opening Doors to Recovery(ODR).

The Rockdale Stepping Up Initiative team and Grit & Grace RCO along with some of our community partners, including NAMI Rockdale Newton and our local AA and NA groups enjoyed supporting the Rockdale Accountability Courts at their Carnival at the Courthouse Family Day!
Our very own, Bill Carruthers will be on the speakers panel of NAMI Georgia's African American Male Mental Health Symposium held on June 26th at 10am hosted by Dr. Laklieshia Izzard of NAMI Rockdale Newton!!!!!!! Please SAVE THE DATE and show up to hear these men discuss Mental Health Restoration, Racial Equity, and Social Justice matters of today!
Winning Strides hosted a Horse & Harp retreat last month for the Rockdale County Stepping Up Initiative.
 
The Stepping Up Initiative is a national initiative to reduce the number of people with mental illnesses in jail. The mission of the Rockdale County Stepping Up Initiative mission is to facilitate treatment and other services instead of incarceration for those inmates diagnosed with mental illness.
 
Representatives from the Board of County Commissioners, the Judicial Branch, and the Grit & Grace Recovery Community Organization came together. Team building activities with the horses, and journaling with live harp music captured their attention.
 
As part of the Rockdale Stepping Up Initiative, the GRIT & Grace Recovery Community Organization is committed to making a transformation through recovery, counseling, education, peer support. They provide purposeful resources to individuals in the recovery community.

As we continue to intentionally grow in our recovery we invite you to our daily Recovery Oriented zoom meetings in hopes that our recovery community will also grow in numbers. We know that it is our duty to carry the recovery message to those that still suffer. If you or a loved one needs the support of a recovery community, we meet every weekday at 11am and 6pm and again on Saturdays at 6pm. HELEN'S STORY
We would like to highlight Helen as this month's "Champion of Recovery!"

Helen is a resident of New Directions Transitional Housing Program. She has been very active in our recovery community and has chosen to be intentional about living a life of recovery!

We are grateful to have people in recovery that are using their passion to support and empower not only others in recovery but the community as a whole!
