It’s the Year of the Tiger, one which represents compassion and good leadership according to the East Asian philosophy of Feng Shui. And... beginning in April, if we are to believe the Chinese on this prediction, creativity, abundance, and kindness will be strongly felt around the world. In consideration of the daily news from abroad, let’s all hope they are right on at least that one note.

Today we honor the original little red wagon most everyone of us had as a child, the Radio Flyer... and celebrate the power of imagination on wheels as children all ages take flight with their little red wagons.

No Lions or tigers... but BEARS... oh my! Time to take in your bird feeders!
Spring's overture is underway, and as the snowpack sinks, black bears are rising from their winter siesta with appetites awakened. Suddenly it's us versus ursus all over the place, and from the back 40 to the barnyard, trouble is bruin. Avoiding a grizzly scene means more than just sending your birdfeeder into hibernation. Compost, bee hives and other entrées need to come off the buffet table, too. The good news is that a few minor adjustments can prevent a major megafauna hubba-Baloo outside your own den. In the name of peaceful coexistence, it's a thought we hope you'll bear in mind.

What was your guess for “ICE OUT”? the “Happenings” editors put their money on March 30... we shall see this morning if that was a lucky bet or not. Latest date on record was on May 14th in 1888. In this century, ice has gone out in the month of April... the earliest was April 3rd in 2020. Perhaps we should listen to the climate scientists, rather than a groundhog for weather predictions.
The times they are a-warming!

Historians speculate that April Fools’ Day dates back to the 1582 when France switched from the Julian calendar (which observed the New Year as beginning near the spring equinox on April first. to the Gregorian Calendar with the year beginning on January 1st. Those who continued to celebrate on April 1st, became the the butt of jokes and hoaxes... hence: “April Fools”.
In 1957, BBC news reported that Swiss Farmers were experiencing a record spaghetti crop and showed footage of people harvesting noodles from trees. Viewers were calling in to find out how to grow such trees!
BBC topped that joke in 1976 claiming at 9:47 am on April 1 an alignment of Pluto and Jupiter would cause reduction in Earth's gravity. Sure enough... minutes later people reported that they had floated in the air at 9:48 am!
More recently, gullible people ordered Burger King’s “Left-handed Whoppers”. There are always reports of the Loch Ness Monster appearing... and “SooNipi” rising from the lake in the harbor! (If you do see “SooNipi"... hoping you have a camera ready... please share the photo.
