The Fort McMurray Airport Authority hosted Team YMM and guests for a Not In My City awareness event at the Fort McMurray International Airport on January 31. #NIMC is a Canada-based social profit organization that raises awareness and takes collective action to prevent, disrupt and end sexual exploitation and trafficking in Canada. YMM is a #NIMC Transportation Ally.

Guests gathered in the Observation Area to hear from the NIMC Cofounders and Champions Paul Brandt and his wife, Liz, Fort McMurray Airport Authority’s (FMAA) President & CEO, Denean Robinson, Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Alberta WB detachment Staff Sergeant Liz MacDonald, and Janine Keagan from Waypoints on the collaborative efforts and work being done to combat human trafficking in Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo.

“YMM is proud to be an Ally of #NIMC and the ongoing efforts to end human trafficking,” said Denean Robinson, President & CEO of FMAA. “We have yellow rose and #NIMC signage throughout our terminal, serving as reminders for our staff and passengers to stay vigilant and to report suspicious behaviour.” Learn more about #NIMC online at notinmycity.ca

YMM welcomes over 2,000 Arctic Winter Games participants

Over 2,000 travellers from the world's northern regions, a plane painted with a salmon, and a historic landing from Air Greenland – the Fort McMurray International Airport had it all for the arrival of athletes for the Wood Buffalo 2023 Arctic Winter Games last week.

Team Alaska was the last to set foot at YMM on Saturday night in the Alaska Airlines Salmon-30-Salmon, a Boeing 737-800 painted with a giant fish on the aircraft.

Air Greenland’s Airbus A330 caught the most attention as it was the largest aircraft the airport had landed at its terminal on January 27. Aviation enthusiasts from across Western Canada and residents came to witness the historic moment. The flight brought over 100 Greenland athletes and guests.

The Athletes will be heading back to their home countries, provinces and states this weekend. Check out the biggest plane to land at YMM again this Saturday at noon. The plane will be at Gate 5 until 7:30 a.m. on Sunday morning.
