Issues with Non-Disclosure Agreement for Crime Analysts
May 24: After learning from members that the Sheriff's Department had recently been asking Crime Analysts to sign non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), PPOA legal counsel issued a Cease and Desist letter to the Department. However, a number of members reported they were still being requested to sign the agreement as recently as last week. PPOA immediately contacted the Department to address the issue again and received assurances in writing on Monday that members would not be asked to sign the agreements going forward. Communication with the Department continues in order to address the previously-signed NDAs and their nullification. If any PPOA member is asked to sign a confidentiality agreement, please contact PPOA at (323) 261-3010.
Supporting Fitness for Members at East LA Station
May 25: PPOA staff members delivered a treadmill to the East LA Station gym on Tuesday. In a continuing effort to support members, PPOA's Star & Shield Foundation teams up with New Life Cardio Equipment (NLCE) each year to secure a limited number of treadmills and ellipticals for employee gyms at units throughout the County. The machines are purchased by the Foundation at discounted pricing and delivered by PPOA to units in need of new exercise equipment. PPOA has also arranged for NLCE to extend special pricing to any PPOA member interested in purchasing cardio equipment for personal use at home. Call Jason at New Life Cardio for more info: (323) 345-7216.
Meet and Confer re: Proposed SCV Station Jailer Positions
May 26: PPOA representatives took part in a Meet and Confer with LASD Patrol Division executives to discuss proposed Station Jailer positions for the new Santa Clarita Valley Station scheduled to open this July. The staffing model needed to operate the new jail, designed to address the increased booking activity in the SCV, has not yet been funded by the Board of Supervisors. PPOA continues to meet collaboratively with the Department in an effort to identify staffing solutions, funding sources, and strategies to attain the goal of a successful opening of the station and demands on our members. Meeting participants from PPOA included President Tab Rhodes, Executive Board Member Tony Coleman and Executive Director Wayne Quint Jr.
California Peace Officer Memorial Foundation
May 27:  President Rhodes, who serves as a California Peace Officers Memorial Foundation (CPOMF) board member, and Executive Director Quint, who serves as executive director for CPOMF, participated in a virtual CPOMF board of directors meeting on Thursday. Topics discussed included: the status of replacement granite stones vandalized in last year's civil unrest; as well as the logistics of next year's large Memorial Ceremony due to the unfortunately extensive group of LEOs who have passed during these years of COVID-19, increased violence against law enforcement, and the postponement of the ceremony for the past two years.

Law Enforcement Technician Classification Study;
Input Needed via Position Questionnaires
May 27: PPOA board and staff members met on Wednesday with representatives from the Sheriff's Department, Personnel, Technology Support Division and Communications and Fleet Management Bureau to discuss the ongoing Law Enforcement Technician (LET) classification study. The teleconference was led by PPOA Vice President/LET Jim Blankenship and he was joined by President Rhodes, Executive Director Quint and Senior Labor Representative Venise Wallace.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: As part of the LET Class Study, the Department has distributed a Position Questionnaire to all LETs this week. Your input is a crucial part of this process. In order to obtain information for more than 500 LET positions throughout LASD, 100% participation is needed. PPOA sent email to LETs yesterday to encourage everyone to complete and submit the questionnaire AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. To maintain the working group's timeline, your Division must collect and process your responses to meet the Department deadline of Tuesday, June 8, 2021. If you have any questions, please reach out to your Division Personnel Aide. If further assistance is needed, contact Personnel Administration Bureau/Classifications Unit at (213) 229-3193.
