Get a payment from the IRS

This is something every church should apply for! Many churches have already received thousands of dollars through the Employee Retention Credit. It may seem confusing, which it was for us when we first read about it, but "after further review," we would strongly recommend that you apply for this credit.

DO YOU QUALIFY?

According to the IRS, you qualify if the full or partial suspension of the operation of your church occurred during any calendar quarter last year (2020) or this year (2021) because of governmental orders limiting commerce, travel or group meetings due to COVID-19. You can ask a lawyer to confirm if you qualify. If you do not have a lawyer, click below for our recommendation. It might cost a few hundred for the lawyer, but you could get thousands back!

NEED ASSISTANCE?

Ministry Works, by Brotherhood Mutual, is a Christian organization that works exclusively with churches and is very familiar with the Employee Retention Credit. Visit their website, watch a short video, and then fill out the application. You will need someone with your church's financial information to do this. Once the information is entered, Ministry Works will do the rest. They will charge you only 5% of the total credit you will receive, but no more than $7,500, and many churches get much more.

This process takes about 4-6 months, but you could see at least 5,000 per employee or more. The credit is based on salaries of employees who participate in the FICA tax program.
