Message From the Chapter President
Happy June!

I would like to begin by acknowledging and celebrating Pride Month. You can learn more here as well as check out some local groups and activities here.

This month’s message is all about being your authentic self, whether it be in your personal life or in leadership roles, and maybe it’s a mix of both.

Kristi Emmons Jones shared with us in her June EWI Connect message the importance of Authentic Leadership. I often reflect on this very statement” As women, I feel we sometimes diminish our authenticity by focusing on a need to be “perfect.”

Too often do I over think and modify my approach, my authenticity, my true self, when I prepare for a leadership role. I may not always have the best words, the smoothest transitions, or all the answers, but I’ve learned that that is okay. As a leader, you do not have to be perfect. You walk into a space with confidence to know that those you are leading are there by your side. Growing up, I was always amazed by those that possessed tons of knowledge and were able to perfectly express that knowledge or have the best answers. For years, I doubted my ability to lead because I was not as good at expressing what I knew and coming up with the perfect words. In full honesty, I still hold my insecurities related to being perfect, but I am working on it. I’ve learned that being honest with myself and leading in a way that is true to my nature and personality versus replicating others or striving for perfection, has allowed me to develop genuine relationships and trust amongst those I lead and work side by side with.

I encourage you to explore Kristi’s advice as you too, either reinforce your authentic self or are (like myself) still learning to do so. This I believe ties nicely with our June presentation, focusing on how we market ourselves to others, especially using the tools of social media.

It’s time to STOP! STOP believing you need to have all the answers. STOP thinking it has to be the perfect timing. STOP waiting to feel more confident before you take the next step. If you wait until you’re 100% ready to do something, you will be too late 100% of the time.
Where Do You Begin? Take Action, be okay being uncomfortable, be authentic without approval and don’t let self-doubt consume you, as others see your potential,
Remember you don’t have to be the WORLD’S BEST at any THING! By being AUTHENTIC you are the WORLD’S BEST YOU!!Because no one can be YOU, except YOU! Authentic Leadership … It’s about being perfectly imperfect.

In Five Years

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Dannie Kohan lives her life by the numbers.

She is nothing like her lifelong best friend—the wild, whimsical, believes-in-fate Bella. Her meticulous planning seems to have paid off after she nails the most important job interview of her career and accepts her boyfriend’s marriage proposal in one fell swoop, falling asleep completely content.

But when she awakens, she’s suddenly in a different apartment, with a different ring on her finger, and beside a very different man. Dannie spends one hour exactly five years in the future before she wakes again in her own home on the brink of midnight—but it is one hour she cannot shake. In Five Years is an unforgettable love story, but it is not the one you’re expecting.
