Free meals for all students end with the 2021-2022 school year

The free school meal program that was federally funded beginning March 2020 is set to expire in June 2022. This means the free breakfast and lunch meals offered to all CRCSD students the last two years will not be extended for the upcoming 2022-2023 school year.

While the universal program is no longer funded, CRCSD has many schools that will qualify for Community Eligibility Program (CEP) status for the 2022-2023 school year. This means many of our schools will continue to have free breakfast and lunch for all students. The following schools will continue with free meals in the 2022-2023 school year under the CEP umbrella.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS:

Arthur, Cleveland, Cedar River Academy at Taylor, Erskine, Garfield, Grant, Grant Wood, Harrison, Hiawatha, Hoover, Johnson, Kenwood, Madison, Nixon, Van Buren, and Wright

MIDDLE SCHOOLS:

Franklin, McKinley, Roosevelt, and Wilson

HIGH SCHOOLS:

Jefferson, Metro, Polk Alternative

We understand this change may cause you concern if your student’s school is not listed above. There are important steps you can take today to make sure your student receives the meals they need next year.

New Facilities Master Plan content added along the way

Historical Recap of Repurposed School Buildings

As CRCSD moves through our Facilities Master Plan journey, we will always be adding new content on our website that you can reference along the way. We recently added a webpage that gives a detailed, historical recap of all the CRCSD school buildings, since 1969, that have been repurposed. There are 26 entries to read, with photo references for most. We thought it was interesting to review - and we thought maybe you would, too!

And, we’ve added some new content on Input Sessions and Board Presentations and Facilities Master Plan Updates webpages.

Planning ahead for middle school students' first day of school

In an effort to smooth the transition from elementary to middle school, 6th grade students will start on the first day of school (Tuesday, August 23, 2022) by themselves. They will spend this early dismissal day exploring their schedules, learning classroom and building expectations, and connecting with their new classmates and teachers.

7th and 8th grade students will start school on Wednesday, August 24, 2022. This is a full day of school.
