Women of Distinction Award
Congratulations to our Family & Community Engagement Specialist Jeni Brown for being honored as one of AWARE’s 2023 Women of Distinction.

The Women of Distinction award celebrates women whose work has benefited the lives of women and children living in Juneau, Alaska.

Jeni is an integral part of our Community & Behavioral Services Healing Center which aims to help people overcome addiction. Over the years, Jeni has shared her personal journey of becoming addicted to drugs after being prescribed opioids following a car crash.

Jeni said she struggled for years and was arrested several times. Now, in her recovery, she has reconnected to her Tlingit heritage and finds healing in traditional ways of life.

“Finding my place back in our community has helped me realize that being a part of the solution and not the problem is well worth the work,” Jeni shared. “Through CBS, we are providing support for tribal citizens as well as our community, which means we are growing stronger and working together. There is hope and recovery is possible.”

The Women of Distinction awards ceremony is March 4, 2023 at the Elizabeth Peratrovich Hall. The other women honored this year are Susan Bell, LaRae Jones and Katheryn Wolfe.
