The Story Scarf Vision - Telling the Stories of Jesus with your Neighbor
Imagine if you did not know how to read the Bible because it was not in your native language or you never had an opportunity to learn to read. How would you come to know the truths about the Bible? Many people in Africa today are in this very situation. They want to know and learn about the Bible, but no one has explained it to them in their own language. Now imagine that you have an image of a story from the Bible, and someone tells you a story that can change your life. Suddenly, a new world of hearing and speaking the truths of the Bible becomes so much more real.

This is what is happening with the development of the Story Scarf!  The Story Scarf has the images of 12 stories from the life of Christ, and as a new Christian comes to know Christ, the 12 powerful stories from the scarf are used to teach them about the character of Jesus. As they learn these stories and how to tell them, we see men and women, boys and girls memorizing the stories of the Bible and sharing these truths with others. Our goal is to have one million disciples of Christ in the Nazarene church in Africa by the year 2020. To do so, we know it will take everyone sharing their faith. This simple tool is revolutionizing the way people share the good news with others by giving everyone a way to be involved in evangelism.

We hope to distribute these story scarfs to more than 5,000 people in more than 20 countries of Africa. The cost is only about $3 USD each, yet the impact to changed lives is priceless. For more information contact Tim Eby at teby@africanazarene.org. Thanks for your support, and we trust God will use your gifts to spread his Word to every tribe and tongue that have not yet heard of the great love of Christ.

VBS/SPORTS CAMPS
The local church has a deep desire to minister to their community. One way we help fulfill that desire is by partnering with to host VBS and sports camps. Through the resources our teams provide, we are able to evangelize not only to the children of the community but to the adults as well.

CONSTRUCTION
It all begins with a need. Churches in need. We have brought new life to churches with a fresh coat of paint. We have restored churches with a new ceiling. We have planted churches with a new building and much more. Whatever the need, our teams will work to get it completed.

MEDICAL CLINICS
In 2018, we began offering medical clinics at our site locations. We have medical professionals who volunteer their time and supplies in order to serve the community and their physical needs. Doctors and nurses on your team would have an opportunity to use their skills to minister to others.

~NEWS from around the District~

Grace Community

I grew up in the Reformed Church and attended Christian school through 8th grade. In 2001, my local church sponsored a mission trip to Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota. I knew instantly that I needed to go on that trip. It was in the midst of that mission week that God called me to fulltime ministry. I started seminary the next year and soon after that was pastoring a rural church of about 25 members. I was at that church for about seven years when my wife Laurie became very ill and died. Through her final year on earth, I stepped away from pastoring and became her fulltime caretaker.  Fast-forward three years, I met Kelley and started attending New Hope in Princeton. One day Pastor Laura called me to her office to ask the pointed question, "What about your call?" I thought the call was a distant memory, but God still had plans for me in ministry! I participated in ministering to the people on Rosebud for 15 years, I have preached monthly at a local nursing home for six years, and I am on staff at a local homeless shelter where I am head of the men's ministry. At New Hope I also served as head of the men's ministry and as Executive Pastor. Recently I became Pastor at Grace Community in Colona, and Kelley and I are excited about starting our ministry there.

Point of Change
Join us in celebrating an affirmative congregational vote to install Rev. J. Todd Keller and Rev. Zac Alvis as Co-Lead Pastors for the Point of Change network. Both Pastor Todd and Pastor Zac are co-vocational pastors and share a love for leadership development and our city. They will now share the responsibilities of caring for and leading our church into the next season. They share a vision for helping people deepen their relationships with Christ and discover their unique contribution to the work of the Kingdom in Bloomington, Mahomet, and beyond.

In casting the vision for co-pastoring, Pastor Todd shared, "I hope to build a healthy church culture with a clear vision and values that can be lived out and built upon apart from and beyond me. When my time comes to an end, I only hope I've made PoC Jesus-centered, rather than personality-driven. I want PoC to always be asking God what's next. This is the conversation we should be having. I'm committed to practicing the art of giving leadership away at every step. Everyone is a minister on this chosen, challenged, and charged pathway. Let's make room."

We will have an official installation service and celebration on Sunday, June 27 during our normal service time (this event will also be live-streamed as well on our Facebook and YouTube). Once again, congratulate both of these amazing pastors and their families and be praying as Point of Change transitions into another season of realizing God's big, bold dreams and goals!
Southside Community Center
Freedom Fest 2021  In the month of June, Southside Community Center (SCC) hosted its first annual Freedom Fest in the 61605 zip code of Peoria, IL.  Freedom Fest involved an 8 day tent revival starting on June 12th and ending with a large Juneteenth celebration on June 19th. The goal of the Freedom Fest was to see revival break out in the city and bring different types of churches together to show unity within the body of Christ. Each night of the revival was led by a team of multiracial pastors who spoke specifically to different groups of people each night.  Our topics included fathers, mothers, children, and youth. Throughout the week we watched as the Holy Spirit worked in incredible and distinct ways. Over 21 different churches were represented at the revival. Many of these churches came from different backgrounds but as a family through Christ, we were able to come together to see transformation in the community. Throughout the week, 46 people accepted Christ and 16 were baptized. It is SCC's goal to have several revivals throughout the year. If you would like to join us next time, please visit the SCC website
www.southside-cc.com or contact us at 309-713-3715.

The Extra Mile
The Extra Mile is serving the finest veggies to Minonk! I still cannot believe it grew but it did! And the folks in the community are loving it. The gardens began by ministering to three young ladies who asked how God makes things grow and why! Wow! Talk about having an opportunity to share God's love fall right in your lap!

The gardens are approximately 200 square feet of raised boxes and conventional ground level garden spaces. While not a huge space, it is a beginning, and it is already scheduled to grow by at least another 400 square feet in 2022.

In 2017 Minonk's only grocery store closed, leaving the town with a dollar store and Casey's General for staples and food albeit not nutritional, so the need for fresh vegetables is great and we are doing all we can to make it happen!

Not only is the mile giving nutritional food to folks we are giving them information to grow their own and the greatest staple we are serving up is the love of Jesus and proof that He will Always Provide their needs through His Grace and love our Gardens are growing.

At the time of this writing, the food is being slowly distributed by people coming and harvesting what they want however, I am praying to have a cart up town where we can reach more. The gardens have so far have given me the opportunity to show nine people what the love of Jesus looks like, and five people want to help when the cart is full!

Distribution will be handled through a free farmers market and other one on one distribution activities, which will allow those who are unchurched or who have felt left by the church to hear God's word in a situation that will allow them to grow and understand that God is there for everyone.
Praise Him!! -Rev. Rita

Church Multiplication Endowment Fund
Give a GIFT that doesn't stop Giving!

Would you give $1.00 a month if it never stopped giving, never wore out, never changed its usefulness or purpose and transformed lives?

How many times do we give a gift to someone only to see it discarded at a later date or discover it was never used as intended? Have you ever wanted to give a gift that would never grow old or wear out, that would always be used for good and made a difference for eternity? NOW you can!

Jesus said "But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal."

Would you partner with your Northwestern Illinois District's vision to plant churches?  You might wonder how you can make a difference or even be a part. Everyone can. We need some to plant, we need everyone to pray and we need many to invest.

The Church Multiplication Endowment Fund is designed to reach unreached people living on the NWIL District for Christ. Every dollar given will continue to give in perpetuity. An endowment fund uses the interest from the principle to do kingdom work.  Will you help fund this goal?

Currently, our district property funds have been invested in planting 22 new churches these past three years and the district is in need of capital to continue to plant more! We need your help. Presently, there are 36 more potential church plants in various stages of planning which will require additional funding support.

Help us reach our GOAL of planting 300 churches by 2030.  We see 300 churches as 3,000 disciplemakers who disciple 15,000 disciples gathering with 30,000 worshippers.  Every dollar you give will continue to reach people for Christ your whole lifetime and beyond.

Would you consider a GIFT of $1.00 a month?  We are not trying to take money from your local ministry where you give your tithes and offerings. We are asking for many to give a little.  Our initial goal is 5,000 giving at least $1.00 a month. Would you be one of those 5,000 making a commitment to create a movement to plant churches that change lives?  Here are ways to give:

 1. You can give to your local church by marking your check or cash gift "NWIL CM Endowment" and your church treasurer will take it from there.

 2. You can also choose to give online if you want to set up one time or reoccurring payments using debit/credit/Electronic Check on the district website at nwilnaz.org/GIVE/ On District Church Planting or direct  CM Endowment Giving LINK. Or scan this QR code at the bottom of this article.

3. You can send a check or cash to NWIL District, 3520 Broadway St., Pekin, IL 61554 (please indicate CM Endowment on check memo)

We are also looking for those who might like to make greater kingdom investments!

You can give cash, stocks, bonds, real estate, livestock, grain, or other personal property.  Basically, any asset of marketable value can be used to help fund this endowment. There are also charitable gift annuity options that allow you to specify the endowment fund or another ministry of your choice while allowing you to receive income for your lifetime and when you pass, your gift goes to the endowment fund or specified ministryCLICK HERE  to see other ways to model generosity. Gifts can be given in memory or in honor of someone.

Large or small: Why not leave a lasting legacy that lasts more than your lifetime.
