BRAVE Character Education Survey

Dear Indian Hill School Families,
We thank you and your family for being our valued partners as we work together to educate the children in our District. As you may already be aware, we are implementing our BRAVE Character Education, initiated during the 2021-2022 school year. This initiative was part of our previous strategic plan process with an emphasis on building social and emotional skills and is connected to our current #IHPromise Strategic Plan within our focus area of Learners as the Whole Child. It is time to gain feedback from our students about this program so that we can make revisions for the remainder of this school year.
We will be asking for your child to reflect on their own mindsets and approaches to learning within our BRAVE Character Education program via an online survey they will be completing within the school day. The survey should take no more than 20-30 minutes to complete.
The survey content will ask students to self-reflect on Positive Feelings, Challenging Feelings, Self-Management, Social Awareness, and Supportive Relationships.
We are asking that all of our students participate in the surveys, as their responses will provide invaluable insights into their experiences and how we can improve and adapt our District to their needs. If a student doesn’t feel like they have enough information to answer a question, they will be able to skip the item altogether. The responses to these surveys will be completely confidential. We are partnering with a third-party vendor to support us in administering these surveys.
If you would like more information about the surveys, you can find a sample here:
Grades 3-5 BRAVE Character Education Survey
Grades 6-12 BRAVE Character Education Survey
After reviewing this information, you may choose to remove your child from this survey opportunity by completing this form. The deadline for this form completion is Friday, March 8 at 12:00 pm.
If you have any questions about the survey, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s school.

Dedicated to the success of our Braves,
Dr. Melissa Stewart, Ed.D.
Chief Academic Officer

Dyslexia Legislation

As required by Ohio Law, Indian Hill Schools are currently screening students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade for characteristics of dyslexia utilizing screening tools approved by Ohio Department of Education and Workforce.

Screening assessments will be administered on the following dates:

  • Kindergarten - 2nd Grade: February 21-28
  • 3rd Grade: February 21

Teams will be analyzing the data from these screening assessments and will be communicating results with parents if their child demonstrates the characteristics and tendencies of dyslexia.  Parents can expect to hear from their child’s teacher by phone no later than March 22 if there are concerns about their child’s reading skills.

Additionally, Indian Hill School District prioritizes a strong literacy foundation for all students that includes both word recognition and language comprehension. Check out Indian Hill’s Literacy Plan by CLICKING HERE.

Birthday Lunch Protocol

Birthdays are the best! Here at IHES, we love celebrating your child's birthday with shout outs on our daily announcements and classroom birthday songs!

We know you want to celebrate their big day too. Sending or dropping off a special lunch for your birthday child is totally fine but, PLEASE do not send in food to share with classmates.

As per our Food Allergy Plan, sharing food at school is not allowed. Thank you for helping us keep all of our students healthy and safe!

Lost & Found

Is your child missing their jacket? How about their water bottle? Sweatshirt? Shoes? If the answer is yes, take a look below. Your child's missing items maybe on our lost and found table located in the vestibule of the main ES entrance. Feel free to drop by during school hours to take a peek!

We will donate the unclaimed items after Parent Teacher Conferences.

Wellness Wednesdays

Here at IHES the staff and students participate in Wellness Wednesdays.

We do this by setting aside Wednesdays as an intentional day (or a moment in the day) each week to remember to take a breath, find moments of mindfulness, slow down, reset, and recharge. Each month's Wellness Wednesday has a different theme. This month's theme is: Compromise & Play

Ask your student about what this means to them!

Join the IHES Birthday Book Club

Would you like to celebrate your child's birthday in a lasting way at our school? Our library has a Birthday Book Club, which provides families a unique opportunity to honor your child's special day.

Families are asked to donate $15.00 to our Birthday Book Club to help underwrite the cost of a new book. The birthday child may then select a new book which has already been ordered for our library collection. There are always many wonderful titles from which to choose. Summer birthdays are celebrated either at half birthdays or in the spring.

The library will put a

birthday bookplate in the front of the selected book to identify this title as a lasting gift for our school's collection. What a wonderful way to emphasize the importance of reading with our Students!

Healthy School Snacks

It is our goal for students to have healthy and safe snack options within the classroom that include fruits, vegetables, and some grains.

·       Examples: rice cakes or crackers, plain popcorn, Pirates Booty, garden veggie straws, Made Good products

·       Non-Examples: pretzels with peanut butter, hard boiled eggs, cereals or cereal bars, granola bars

We appreciate any and all efforts to provide snacks for your child that are the least intrusive to the teaching and learning environment (i.e., ease of opening, particular smells, allergen-free products).

Thank you in advance for your assistance. If you have any questions about snack time, please contact your child's teacher or Mrs. Joyce- 513-272-4703 - gayle.joyce@ihsd.us

Transportation Change Reminders!

*Until further notice students will not be permitted to ride home on any bus except their own. Any questions? Contact 513-272-4530*

Pick Up Patrol (PuP) is used here at IHES to manage student dismissal and for parents/guardians to communicate transportation plans to teachers and school staff. If you are not using PuP, we ask that you begin ASAP. Knowing your child's daily transportation plans ensures that we get your child home in a safe and timely manner.

If you are already using PuP, thank you! Here are a couple of tips on using the program:

  • Make sure your child's default (aka daily) plans are up to date
  • Any daily changes must be entered by 2:30 p.m. (if a change comes up after this time please call the office 513-272-4703)
  • Teachers will follow whatever has been entered in PuP unless you have contacted the office with a change
