Novel RNA Research, Invention, and Startup Born at Rutgers Receives $75 Million in Series A Funding
Technology developed at Rutgers can silence defective genes in tissues and organs
A Rutgers professor’s novel research into targeting and silencing defective, disease-causing RNA molecules has led to the launch of Ceptur Therapeutics, a startup that has raised $75 million in Series A funding.
The initial research that led to the creation of Ceptur was conducted by principal investigator Samuel I. Gunderson, PhD, associate professor of molecular biology and biochemistry at Rutgers-New Brunswick’s School of Arts and Sciences. Gunderson’s research focused on Ribonucleic acid (RNA), specifically how to manipulate and control RNA to understand its functions and treat different genetic diseases, such as certain blood cancers and neurological disorders.

The NCATS/NIH Genomics Information Commons Un-Meeting on
Enabling and Promoting Inter-Institutional Clinical and Genomic Research
April 13, 2022
The Genomics Information Commons (GIC) invites the community to a NCATS-sponsored Un-Meeting on “Enabling and Promoting Inter-Institutional Clinical and Genomic Research.” The goal of the meeting is to solicit innovative and collaborative ideas from across the CTSA Consortium to evaluate acceptability and scalability of the GIC’s prototype system, and to ideate around next steps and future directions. Specific topics include: using and analyzing federated genome and phenome data; aligning consenting processes across the Consortium; GIC research topic opportunities – low hanging fruit; facilitation of inter-institutional research collaboration; and GIC cloud-hosted data and analytic environments and technologies for local institutional research.
The Genomic Information Commons (GIC) is an NCATS/NIH funded continuously updating, queryable, federated system enabling and promoting clinical and genomic research across eight pediatric hospitals. The GIC has established highly scalable technologies, policies, and procedures for sharing genomic data, phenotypic data, and biospecimen metadata on broadly consented cohorts, across sites of care.

Insight into Successful Recruitment
|
|
What we wish every investigator knew:
Top 4 Recruitment and Retention Recommendations
from the Recruitment Innovation Center
Every clinical researcher who wants to successful recruit and retain study participants should learn from this important publication from the Recruitment Innovation Center (RIC). The RIC, part of the CTSA's Trial Innovation Network, is tasked with addressing critical roadblocks in clinical research. The RIC consults with CTSA hubs and their research teams on strategies to increase clinical trial enrollment by developing, testing, and sharing innovations to enhance participant recruitment and retention. After 220 consultations with investigators nationwide, the RIC has compiled four primary recommendations for addressing common pitfalls in recruitment and retention.
- Assess recruitment and retention barriers and develop mitigation strategies
-
Prioritize the participant journey: Minimizing burden and returning value
- Conduct data-driven site selection
- Engage stakeholders at every step for greater impact
