2021 Annual Report: ORSANCO's Year in Review

Ohio River Sweep 2021: Counting the Ways to a Cleaner River!
In 2021, the Ohio River Sweep held 150 litter cleanups in the Ohio River watershed. This number was 6 times greater than the 25 River Sweep events held in 2020...and we plan to grow even more in 2022. This year, new groups were able to participate, such as scout groups, universities, and rotary clubs, and 1,500volunteers removed 50,000 lbs of trash from the Ohio River Basin, including smaller creeks and tributaries! An Exciting Educational Update!
ORSANCO recently added new member to our staff, Nick Callahan. Nick works with our environmental education and outreach programs, including River Sweep and FORE. Prior to his work at ORSANCO, Nick was an EEL Corps AmeriCorps member serving with the WAVE Foundation at the Newport Aquarium as a Conservation Educator. And in other exciting news, we were able to continue FORE's River REACH Educational cruises in partnership with BB Riverboats! OHIO RIVER RECREATION!
The Ohio River Discussion Series is a virtual event featuring topics on clean water, ecosystem restoration, education, transportation, flood control, and recreation. The discussions are sponsored and supported by the Ohio River Basin Alliance, The Ohio River Recreation Trail, ORSANCO, the National Park Service, and the Foundation for Ohio River Education. Various speakers will be featured on a wide range of river-related topics, and this month's series is all about Ohio River Recreation!
