Pastors' Weekly Message: From Pastor Pat
Greetings Beloved!
In my previous profession and current vocation I have to speak before an audience. Audiences vary and include courtrooms, senate chambers, community meetings, training classes, and congregations. No matter the audience I am always expected to tell the truth.
It’s difficult to tell the truth. Sometimes the truth may hurt the hearer and we don’t want to shoulder that burden. Sometimes the truth will hurt the one sharing it and we don’t want to bear the mantle of accountability either. Not telling the truth to protect oneself and at the expense of others does far more harm than good.
When the truth is intentionally withheld, the hearer is deprived of the ability to make informed decisions or to respond in a way best for them.
Now, before you set about telling folk how that hairstyle doesn’t work for them or that you never liked the macaroni and cheese they baked, please hear this:
The word of God calls us to share the truth IN LOVE, not in spite or maliciously.
A long time ago I saw an acronym about truth-telling. I don’t know who the author might be but the words seem applicable today. If we THINK before we share, we will:
T - know the word is timely; it is what needs to be said in the moment.
H - share only what is honest, what is factual.
I - share because we hope to inspire the hearer.
N - share what is necessary, not a message laden with our opinions or suppositions.
K - ensure that we share words that are kind.
The truth can be just as difficult to share as it can be to hear. But if we THINK first, it will be a message that helps instead of hurts, that heals instead of hinders.
Peace
-- Pastor Pat

It's time to restock the Hunger Ministry pantry! During covid, we supported hungry people in the 20895 ZIP code with grocery store gift cards, and now our Hunger Ministry coordinators are working on plans for restarting in-person food distribution in the fall.
Please note:
- We cannot accept glass containers.
- Our distribution will initially look different from events held before covid.
-
Please donate only those items found on the list at stpaulsk.org/service/hunger-ministry.
- Ensure items have a sell-by or use-by date of October 2021 or later.
Shopping bags and printed lists are also available on the table in the Narthex. Food donations may be dropped in the bins on Sunday or during office hours.
Financial contributions are also welcome. Please donate at stpaulsk.org/giving, or by check made out to St. Paul's UMC with "Hunger Ministry" on the memo line.

We can’t get “back to normal” without our volunteers!
St. Paul's has several areas where we are welcoming new and returning volunteers:
- Hunger Ministry
- Worship Livestream Team
- Sunday Morning Welcome Ministry
- Sunday Office Volunteers
You can find a short description about what each role might entail at stpaulsk.org/community/calendar-events These are all great ways to reconnect with St. Paul's and give of your time and talents. Schedules are flexible.
If any of these sound like they might be a good fit for you, please email Erin Steele in the church office (stpaulsunited@stpaulsk.org).

Sanctuary and livestreaming
A celebration of the life of Nellie Longsworth will be held in the Sanctuary of St. Paul's on Monday, June 21. The livestream will be available at stpaulsk.org/worship/memorials. The service begins at 11:00 AM. Nellie leaves a legacy of a 30-year career in historic preservation and preservation activism and is survived by three children, including St. Paul's member Jeff Longsworth and his wife Kim. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions in Nellie's memory be directed to Preservation Action (https://preservationaction.org/)

Submit ideas between now & July 25
Do you know a great non-profit or municipal organization? We are interested in connecting with organizations we can partner with for the Great Day of Service on Oct. 3 and we welcome your ideas! We also will review suggestions for outdoor or light indoor work at individual homes. Projects are expected to last 1 to 4 hours. Please go to stpaulsk.org/service/justice-and-compassion and click the button for the suggestion form. Thank you! The Great Day of Service, organized by St. Paul's Justice & Compassion team, will offer multiple opportunities for members and friends of St. Paul's to be involved in short-term service projects that benefit our broader community. Look for more information in the coming months as plans take shape.

Wednesdays
9:00 AM
During the summer months, we'll bring you the Daily Breath once a week, on Wednesdays at 9:00 AM. Visit https://www.facebook.com/stpaulskensington - no Facebook account required! As always, videos remain available for later viewing.
Clergy and staff including Pastor Kate, Pastor Pat, Meg Baker, Micah Smartt, and Tom Pedersen, take turns leading a casual, meditative time that could include scripture, music, thoughts to ponder, prayer, personal stories of the faith journey, and a chance to reflect on the eternal power of God's love even in challenging times.

Instead of structured Sunday School this summer, St. Paul's will offer childcare for rising-grade-3 and younger during the 10:30 AM worship service, featuring community service opportunities as well as playtime and crafts. Please register children by noon on Saturday each week at stpaulsk.org/community/children so we can ensure a safe child-to-caregiver ratio. To register for nursery care at the 9:00 service, please email Meg (mbaker@stpaulsk.org).

Summer is right around the corner! With that St. Paul's will embrace the opportunity to do some things a little differently. From June 1 - August 31, 2021 you can look forward to:
● Summer office hours of 10am - 1pm (Mon.-Thurs.)
● Daily Breath will be on Wednesdays only at 9am
● Open seating in the Sanctuary, but still masking and providing contact information
● Clergy will not be robing for our summer services.
Worship will still be at 9am and 10:30am with live streaming at 10:30am. Announcements about summer programming have already been or will be shared through the Epistle and weekly emails. Let's take this time to step back and reconnect to why we worship. So thank you for journeying with us through the few summer adjustments.
~Pastor Pat

Scripture for June 20, 2021
Isaiah 66:10-14
10 Rejoice with Jerusalem, and be glad for her,
all you who love her;
rejoice with her in joy,
all you who mourn over her –
11 that you may nurse and be satisfied
from her consoling breast;
that you may drink deeply with delight
from her glorious bosom.
12 For thus says the LORD:
I will extend prosperity to her like a river,
and the wealth of the nations like an overflowing stream;
and you shall nurse and be carried on her arm,
and dandled on her knees.
13 As a mother comforts her child,
so I will comfort you;
you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.
14 You shall see, and your heart shall rejoice;
your bodies shall flourish like the grass;
and it shall be known that the hand of the LORD is with his servants,
and his indignation is against his enemies.
(New Revised Standard Version)
