Student Spotlight - Fei Yu
|
|
|
Fei Yu works as an International Student Immigration Advisor in the UCIE office at Wright State University, where she advises international students and recent graduates on immigration regulations and processes. She really likes her job because she can apply her education and previous work experiences. Having come from China and now residing in the United States, she understands how important it is to follow the immigration policies and help students make their transition to be successful.
Fei has over fifteen years of work experience in the international education area. She has worked on the other side of this role in both China and Britain ten years ago. This has given Fei a unique perspective to recruit students from around the world. Fei attended the University of Dayton as an international student as she was pursuing a master’s degree in teaching.
|
|
Because of her experiences so far, she understands how important it is for the students to find a CPT and OPT internship. Additionally, Fei worked in the international office of career service center of UD.
During her time there, she met people who devoted their career to support international students. Fei is very enthusiastic to learn different cultures. She learned Japanese at college and taught herself the Korean language. She is now working on learning Spanish! In addition to her interest in foreign languages, Fei likes to play the piano after work to help her enter into a peaceful and relaxing world. Fei is very happy to work in the UCIE office.

Spring OPT application process is now open. You can access and complete all required documents for the OPT application.
If you are an international student graduating in the Spring 2021 semester, you may start applying for OPT after January 31, 2021.
Choose an OPT start date between May 2 and June 30, 2021.
PLEASE NOTE: If you have any reservations regarding graduation for Spring 2021 semester, please do not apply for OPT until after semester end grades have been posted.
|
|
How can I apply for an OPT I-20 and where can I obtain it since the UCIE office is closed?
Although the campus is temporarily closed, OPT applications are still being processed daily. Please scan and email the application with department approval to fei.yu@wright.edu. After it is processed, we will mail the I-20 to you.
Maintaining status on OPT is still the same as usual
You are permitted only 90 days of unemployment between the start and end dates on your EAD card. In addition, you are required to report the following information through the SEVP Portal while on OPT within 10 days from the change:
1. When you start a new job.
2. When you change addresses.
3. Periods of unemployment.
4. 6-month validation (You can email fei.yu@wright.edu after you update your employment information and residential address through SEVP Portal)
Can I travel back to my home country during OPT period?
Please be aware that if you are unemployed for more than 90 days, you will lose your OPT status. Also, during this uncertain time, we do not suggest international travel as there is no guarantee of open borders.

Conversion of Failing Grades
|
|
Recognizing the difficulties many students have faced that may have impacted their ability to perform at their best level, Wright State University is providing an automatic conversion of failing grades for undergraduate students that we hope will minimize long term damage to these students’ GPAs as a result of the continued challenges we face during the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the end of spring and summer 2021, all faculty will submit their course grades (A, B, C, D, F, X, or NR) by the grading deadline. After the deadline, all grades of F will be automatically converted to U. All grades of X will be automatically converted to XU. F-grades received as a result of an academic integrity violation will be converted back to an F-grade by the registrar upon consultation with the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct.
Grading Deadline
Spring 2021: Noon, Wednesday, May 5
Summer 2021: Noon, Wednesday, August 4

Dear Students,
US Government Agencies (Social Security, Department of Motor Vehicles, Student and Exchange Visitor Program {SEVP}) will never call you on the phone and request person information or credit card information. A recent Scam has Scammers Using SEVP Phone Numbers to Target International Students
Things to remember:
· US Government Agencies will NEVER ask stakeholders to provide credit/debit card/gift card numbers, wire transfers, or bank routing numbers, or to make bitcoin deposits for any purpose.
· NEVER divulge personal or financial information to unknown callers.
· Report all suspicious calls to the police and if you are unsure about the validity of a call from SEVP officials reach out to the UCIE by emailing askucie@wright.edu
