CDI Announcements
Congratulations to the 2022 Clinician-Teacher and Physician/Scientist Development Award Recipients!
The Center for Diversity and Inclusion supports the careers of faculty and clinical fellows underrepresented in medicine (UiM) through our faculty development awards program, which includes the Physician/Scientist Development Award (PSDA) and the Clinician-Teacher Development Award (CTDA). Since 2004, 80 awards totaling close to $12 million in funding have been awarded. Although these awards have been historically funded by ECOR and the MGPO, the MGH Structural Equity Plan which is fully integrated into MGB United Against Racism, has allocated funding to expand CDI and this award program. As a result, CDI sponsored 3 additional recipients, for a total of nine awards - 3 CTDA and 6 PSDA.

Sherri-Ann Burnett-Bowie, MD
"I am inspired by my parents who literally and figuratively sowed the seeds for my life & career; my children and spouse who refuel my tank and provide perspective; and Harriet Tubman. I cannot comprehend her strength and vision and I am inspired by her quote which resides in my kitchen: “Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars and change the world.”

Jocelyn Carter, MD, MPH
"Beginning as a general internal medicine hospitalist and clinician-educator within the Hospital Medicine Unit of the Division of General Internal Medicine, I was delighted to learn about the unique and incredibly important work that CDI does and was thrilled to come aboard in this capacity. I was then and remain passionate about addressing training and career equity in healthcare for students, trainees, and faculty."

Secondary Mentorship Program for Diverse Research Faculty
Request for Applications
The Disparities Solutions Center, with funding support from the MGH Equity and Community Health Office, is launching the Secondary Mentorship Program for Diverse Research Faculty. This program will kick off on June 27th as a small pilot program for one year. The program will support four junior MGH faculty from historically underrepresented groups, who will receive mentorship for one year from secondary research mentors. The secondary mentor is an essential resource for the tenure-track faculty member. In addition to helping the tenure-track faculty member adjust to the environment of the department and the school, the secondary mentor should be available as needed to provide another perspective on questions related to scholarly expectations and progress, work/life balance, and personal issues.

To learn more about the program and see if you would be a qualified candidate, visit the Disparities Solutions Center websiteApplications are due Friday, May 20, 2022, 5pm.

Anne Klibanski Visiting Scholars Award 2022-2023
Deadline – Monday, May 16, 2022, 11:59 pm
Applications are now being accepted by the Center for Faculty Development for the Anne Klibanski Visiting Scholars Award 2022-2023.

About the Award
Despite extensive work to improve gender equity in academic medicine, women continue to lag behind men in promotions and leadership positions. This inequity was intensified during the COVID-19 pandemic which disproportionately affected women who were tasked with taking on increased childcare and household responsibilities and/or the care of ailing relatives.

Because of COVID-19-related restrictions, many Grand Rounds and Visiting Professorships are being conducted virtually. This change provided an opportunity to promote the participation of more women in Visiting Professorships by removing the barriers that often prevent women from traveling.

The Center for Faculty Development’s Anne Klibanski Visiting Scholars Award was created in this context and, given its success, has continued. This award will be presented to women faculty clinicians, educators, researchers, and postdocs at MGH who have shown exceptional promise as leaders in their field and whose careers would specifically benefit from speaking, mentoring and networking opportunities at the national or international level. Click here for more information.
