The Messenger of St. Mark's | Epiphany | February 8, 2024

For your thought:

Then a cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud there came a voice, “This is my Son, the Beloved; listen to him!” Suddenly when they looked around, they saw no one with them any more, but only Jesus.

--Mark 9:7-9

You may also give online via PayPal here. Please select "Memorial Fund" and add "Mark Hendrick" in the memo/note field. Thank you for your assistance and willingness to help!

Bring Your Palm Branches for Mardi Gras!

Please bring your Palm fronds from last Palm Sunday to St. Mark's and place them in the basket in the Narthex any time before Saturday, February 10th. It is customary during Shrove Tuesday/Mardi Gras celebrations to burn the blessed palm branches from the previous Palm Sunday to create the ashes for Ash Wednesday.

Sundi Gras (Sunday, February 11)

Sunday, February 11, will be the last liturgy at St. Mark's prior to Ash Wednesday. All are invited to come to worship at 9:30 a.m. and experience the joy of live jazz (ft. Entourage) during the liturgy. All are welcome!

The Saints Speak

We are approaching the time of year when people start thinking about Saints (thanks, Lent Madness). The St. Marks Tellers of Sacred Stories have decided to take the opportunity to introduce you to some of our favorite saints.

We will be telling the stories of these Saints – some surprising, some inspiring, some simply unexpected – Sunday February 11. Please Join us in the Nave after coffee hour to hear the stories of a fascinating collection of saints.

Bp. Hunn's Weekly Update (2/3)

Weekly Update - February 3

In the first Weekly Update February 2024, The Diocese of Rio Grande is in three parts. The first one focuses on an essential activity conducted at a leadership retreat and its broader rollout expected in spring. The activity intending to understand the core values that make up the identity of the Episcopal Church. Reinforcing the importance of holding on to the identity and values even in the face of challenge and change. The second part sheds light on the annual discernment retreat taking place at the Cathedral of St. John, aiming to understand every individual’s purpose and who God wants them to be. The video also informs about a film viewing event about the Philadelphia 11 at the Cathedral of St. John on February 28th.

Women of the DRG: Philadelphia Eleven Movie

Feb. 23: Screening and Eucharist, 5PM

Feb. 24: Brunch and Discussion, 9AM

This is an exciting opportunity to learn about the first eleven women ordained in The Episcopal Church. The film has been eight years in production. Read more about it here.

There will be a screening of the film at the Cathedral of St. John (ABQ) on Feb. 23, followed by a Eucharist con-celebrated by many women priests in the Diocese, and a dinner.

(Tentative time: 5PM)

On Saturday, Feb. 24, Women's Ministry will host a brunch roundtable discussion about the progress and challenges for women in ministry (lay and ordained). We hope to have one of the Philadelphia Eleven join us.
