MAYOR'S UPDATE
From the desk of Mayor Rika Levin
The Landlord Tenant Assistance Program (LTAP) will allow small landlords who own eight units or less, who maintain rent levels that are affordable to residents, to apply for up to $25,000 per unit for repairs to their rental properties. To be eligible, landlords/owners must charge rents that are affordable to households earning between no more than 60% and 100% of the Area Median Income (AMI), and home improvements may include, but are not limited to, roof replacement, or upgrades to electrical, windows, accessibility ramps, plumbing and heating systems. With $10M available in funds, 400 units can be rehabilitated.
There were lots of early voting kickoff events this weekend. I got a chance on Saturday to hear more from Congressman Maloney, who is running in our district.
Had a great time with Kemi Pogue and the Ossining kids from Home Run Against Drugs. Thank you, Mark Reisman and Congregation Sons of Israel, for coordinating and sponsoring this wonderful day of baseball fun. Congratulations to Kinya for winning the yogurt eating contest!
Our environment: Did you know that?
  • Paper receipts cannot be recycled and must be disposed of in the trash. If there is the option, opt for digital receipts when shopping.
  • Before 2020, in New York State, over 23 billion plastic bags were typically used yearly. This bag waste reduction law has helped address issues caused from plastic bags. You're less likely to see plastic bags stuck in trees, as litter in our neighborhoods, or floating in our waterways. Plastic bags also pose harm to wildlife.
  • This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Returnable Container Act (RCA) - also known as the "Bottle Bill." Under this act, roadside container litter has been reduced by 70%. In 2020, the act helped to recycle 5.5 billion plastic, glass, and aluminum beverage containers totaling 241,505 tons at no cost to local governments.

This week, we will be holding a brief Special Meeting tomorrow morning (Wednesday 8/17) at 9AM over Zoom to approve the voucher run and take care of pressing business. This is our last meeting for the month of August.

Aside from (3) sets of minutes and the voucher detail report, we have the following:

  • As discussed in last week’s Work Session, the Board will be asked to pass (2) resolutions related to the Lead Service Line Replacement (LSLR) program: one is to authorize the Village Manager to sign a proposal for Arcadis to write a grant for us to offset the cost of this mandatory work (as well as prepare the report, which is required whether or not we receive funding), and the other is to submit the grant.
  • The Board will also have a resolution adopting Local Law #6 (formerly Proposed Local Law #9), making changes to the Village’s parking regulations (largely centered in downtown and at the train station) which will take effect in September.
