April 8, 3:00-4:00pm; China Basin, Conf. Room 342
Cancer, a leading cause of mortality, can be effectively treated if detected in its early stages. However, early detection is challenging for both humans and computers. While AI can identify details beyond human perception, delineate anatomical structures, and localize abnormalities in medical images, the training of these algorithms requires large-scale datasets, comprehensive annotations. Several disciplines, including natural language processing (e.g., GPTs), representation learning (e.g., MAE), and image segmentation (e.g., SAMs), have witnessed the transformative power of scaling data for AI advancement. Still, this concept remains relatively underexplored in medical imaging due to the inherent challenges in data and annotation curation. This talk seeks to bridge this gap by focusing on datasets and annotations that are integral to the analysis of medical images, particularly for early cancer detection.

More often than not, biological experiments involve repeated measures. Examples include responses measured in cellular assays, where the repeated measures may occur over multiple experimental batches, multiple plates, or multiple wells within a plate. Standard statistical tests like t-tests and ANOVA are not applicable. Instead, analysis of such data requires more sophisticated approaches, such as Linear MixedEffect Modeling. In this course, you will learn the motivation for the use of these models, the underlying description and assumptions behind them, example scenarios where they can be used, and code to implement and interpret these models in R.

We know that writing can be challenging for scientists, especially when you’re writing something non-scientific. But we also know there are certain things that every scientist needs to write at some point – like a personal bio, a cover letter or résumé, a conference proposal, or a teaching statement. Writing in community, rather than in isolation, can help make this process a little less painful – and maybe even a bit fun. Come for a single 45-minute writing “sprint,” or stay for the full retreat.

Recognizing the need for collaboration of MSK scientists with experts outside of the MSK field, we are providing support to MSK Center members to host a meal for a creative and enjoyable in-person networking meeting to stimulate these interactions and to further develop new research ideas and plans to fund them. Faculty, staff, and trainees who are MSKC/CCMBM members are encouraged to apply to host an event.
If you are not a member, you may concurrently apply for membership while your Open MIKE application is being reviewed.
