Elmside/Woodchase Streetscape Improvements Taking Shape, Pedestrian Light Poles Will Illuminate Nights

Months of construction progress and work are enhancing Elmside and Woodchase Drives as streetscape improvements are nearing completion. Select driveway sections along the path have been replaced and repaved while wider, continuous sidewalks have been built on the east side of the street. The new sidewalks connect pedestrians and cyclists from Westheimer to Woodchase Park. Along the 1.4 mile-path, the District replaced span wires with the installation of traffic light mast arms (at Westpark and Richmond), added seat walls, bike racks, half-moon spheres and mile markers. Numerous pedestrian light poles will illuminate the path in the evenings and enhanced landscaping, including Loquat-leaf Oak and Crape Myrtle trees, will be added along the sidewalks.

Westchase District Commercial Market Holds Steady
According to Sherry Fox, Westchase District's vice president of communications, the District has been somewhat resilient to the impact of the pandemic which struck last year.
"All of our land uses, except for hotels, have maintained strong occupancies during the pandemic-induced real estate crunch. While our office buildings aren't fully-occupied as employees continue to work from home, they are maintaining a strong leased percentage," said Fox. "And some notable new leases, including Vroom and Key Energy, are indicative that quality businesses still want to locate in Westchase District. As we put the pandemic behind us and as Westchase District completes all its roadway and park projects, our market will be in an even stronger position to compete for new leases."

Bring the Kids, Farmtastic is Coming!



Farmtastic is back! Farmers market goers can experience a petting zoo, balloon twist art, learn how to make bird houses, pickles, and hear great music. Families are invited to bring their kids for a fun variety of activities at the Westchase District Farmers Market on June 17 and July 15, from 4 - 6 p.m. 

The activities for each Farmtastic is as follows:

Houston West Chamber of Commerce Recognizes Westchase District at 2019-2020 Celebration

The Houston West Chamber of Commerce appropriately themed its recent celebration to the 'Roaring 20s' because it had been more than a year since the chamber hosted a gala event where members could attend in person. After a year of on-line events, the HWCOC member spirit and cheer were indeed roaring back as it celebrated the return of live events. Westchase District was recognized with a Building the Community Award - 2020.

The award highlighted the District's dedication in helping the business community continue to thrive in West Houston. HWCOC celebrated dozens of outstanding members and volunteers for 2019 and 2020. HWCOC capped the celebration by paying tribute to Dave Gilkeson, Westchase District's COO and vice president, for serving as the chamber's 2020 board chairman. Adding to the fun festivities and accolades, Sherry Fox, Westchase District's vice president of communications took the top prize in the "Best Costume" contest. 


Houston TranStar Offers Hurricane Season Preparedness Tips

It's always good to have your check list of supplies you'll need in the event of an emergency like a hurricane says TranStar.
While residents are no strangers to heavy rain events throughout the year, and particularly during hurricane season, which runs from June 1 - November 30, Transportation and Emergency Management personnel at Houston TranStar are stressing the importance of being prepared for severe weather.
