President’s Report
By Lorraine Zamora
Election Day is November 2. If you have not voted early, please go and vote on Tuesday. The Democratic candidates on the ballot have been endorsed by Three Parks and are listed in this newsletter, as well as the five proposed state constitutional amendments. Let me thank all of you who have posted election notices up and down the Upper West Side streets, and to Lynn Thomas for producing them, letting our neighbors know where to vote. This is a service that Three Parks provides every election year, unbeknownst to many but important to all.
On Monday, November 1, please join us at 103rd Street and Broadway to help Get-Out-the-Vote. Three Parks will have a sidewalk table on both sides of Broadway from 4:00-6:00 pm.
On Wednesday, November 17, Three Parks will host a sidewalk table to support the proposed New York Health Act, which would establish state-sponsored, single-payer health insurance for all New York State residents. We will be gathering signatures on postcards to present to state legislators. Please join us if you can for this important effort.
At our November 10 club meeting, we are looking forward to hearing from Senator Chuck Schumer. We will also hear from two speakers who are currently candidates and who we hope will both be celebrating election by that time: Council Member candidate Shaun Abreu and State Senate candidate Cordell Cleare. At the meeting, we look forward to congratulating Shaun and Cordell on their successful campaigns.
Then, in the next four consecutive club meetings—December 8, January 12, January 25 and February 9, we will be endorsing candidates for the following: Governor, Lt. Governor, State Comptroller, Congress, State Senators, State Assembly, State Committee, Judges and Judicial Delegates. Please go to our website or upcoming newsletters for more updated information.

Message to Our Senators and Representatives: Reach “the Best Possible Deal” to Combat Climate Change
In a letter of October 25 to Senators Chuck Schumer and Kristin Gillibrand and to Representatives Jerry Nadler and Adriano Espaillat, the board of directors of Three Parks Independent Democrats urged “big bold action” to combat climate change. While recognizing that because of the intransigence of Senators Manchin and Sinema, and the failure of the Republicans in Congress to “govern on behalf of the vest majority of Americans,” Democrats “may not be able to achieve all our [climate] goals in one fell swoop,” the board expressed its support for “the best possible deal […] in your negotiations concerning the Build Back Better Act.”
The Board also reminded our senators and representatives that “In order to prevail in the 2022 midterms, we must show Democrats and independents alike that we can make life better now and in the future for the planet and our communities, and we must be able to market whatever success we can muster.”
