LGBTQ Challenges Have Grown
Through COVID-19
As we near the end of LGBTQ History Month, which began in 1994 as a way to celebrate and teach the history of the LGBTQ community, we appreciate how inclusive coaching supports students who identify across gender/sexual preference spectrums. By its very nature, coaching is personalized to an individual and inclusive of each element of diversity with which an individual identifies.
Given the wide range of unique identities that make up the rainbow that is the LGBTQ community, a one-on-one coaching conversation can make a student feel seen, heard, and respected, no matter how they identify.
As with other marginalized communities, the COVID-19 pandemic has hit the LGBTQ community particularly hard. The Williams Institute, in conjunction with the Point Foundation, conducted a recent study finding that nearly 2/3 of transgender students reported increased difficulty pursuing their studies, with twice as many LGBTQ students as non-LGBTQ students being affected by such disruptions as losing student housing or losing financial aid.
Many LGBTQ students struggle with feeling safe, earning respect, and connecting with people on campus who they trust. A one-on-one coaching relationship, with its equal-power setting, emphasis on student agency, and safe nonjudgmental space can be just the opportunity for students in the LGBTQ community to find an ally.
LifeBound inclusive coaching will give you tools to support ALL students who are facing challenges.
