2024 Nicklaus Youth Spirit Award | Columbus Academy eighth-grader Sydney Al-Lateef accepted the 2024 Nicklaus Youth Spirit Award from Jack and Barbara Nicklaus at yesterday's 14th annual Legends Luncheon hosted by Nationwide. The award honors a patient champion who has shown strength and positivity in the face of adversity. Final PACA Connect Meeting on May 8 | Please join us for the last PACA Connect meeting of the school year on Wednesday, May 8, at 8:05 a.m. on the dining hall's fireside. Coffee and a light breakfast will be served as a thank you to all PACA volunteers for their hard work this year. Attendees will also vote on the Executive Committee slate for 2024-25. Seniors Welcomed by Alumni Board | Last Tuesday, the class of 2024 was welcomed into Columbus Academy’s Alumni Association at the Senior Alumni Board Luncheon. The keynote speaker was Stephanie Preston Domas ’05, recipient of this year’s Young Alumni Award. Stephanie is the chief information security officer at Canonical, the maintainer of the world’s most popular Linux operating system Ubuntu. Previously she was the chief security technology strategist for Intel and led two successful cybersecurity businesses after graduating Cum Laude from The Ohio State University with a degree in electrical and computer engineering. The luncheon also included recognition of this year’s student alumni board representatives: Zaina Albirini, Tommy Jauchius, Stella Lee, Grace Philip, Ellie Smith and Henry Wood. National Accolades in Speech & Debate | Columbus Academy juniors Ellie Tiwari, Gavin Hunter, Grace Holbrook and Arnav Nawani were named Academic All-Americans by the National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA). Additionally, senior David Werstler and Akshaj Jagarapu were awarded distinction by the NSDA Honor Society. Also, junior Hansheng Xu qualified for next month’s 2024 National Speech and Debate Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa. "This is an absolutely phenomenal team," stated faculty advisor and debate team coach Kimberly Reiner. "Their dedication and commitment are commendable, and I hope they take the time to celebrate their successes." | | |

Future Business Leaders of America |
Head of Middle School Shaka Arnold recently accompanied 26 middle-schoolers to the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) State Leadership Conference. Our students placed in 40 different competition categories, including 30 top-four results that qualified for the FBLA national conference this summer in Orlando. Athletic Signing Celebration Tomorrow |
On the final day of classes for seniors tomorrow (Friday, May 3), three more Academy students will officially commit to continuing their athletic careers on the collegiate level: Yasemin Bilgin (women’s tennis at Case Western Reserve University), William Harpster (men’s swimming at Bucknell University) and Alli Klinefelter (women’s track & field at Clemson University). Columbus Academy recently hosted events to honor a pair of young alums who left us too early. On April 18, our boys tennis program started a new tradition by playing Bexley for the inaugural Jack Madison Cup in memory of a 2021 CA graduate from Bexley who passed away in January of 2023. Two days later our baseball team faced Amanda-Clearcreek in the Andy Bowman Memorial Baseball Game honoring a 2016 grad who passed away in February of 2023.
