This Week at DVHS

Dear Dougherty Valley High School Community,

We are thrilled to announce that our annual Staff Appreciation Week will be held from May 6th through May 10th, 2024. This is an excellent opportunity for us to express our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for the dedication and hard work of our exceptional staff members.

During this week, we invite you to participate in a variety of activities and contribute to making our staff feel truly valued and appreciated. Each day, we will be providing different treats and surprises for our staff, such as delicious snacks, energizing breakfast items, useful classroom supplies, or thoughtful small gifts.

To ensure the success of this event, we have created a sign-up link where you can contribute by signing up to bring specific items on the assigned dates starting from April 29! Please click here to sign up to view the list of needed items and sign up for your preferred contribution.

Additionally, our teachers have provided a wish list of classroom-based items that would greatly enhance their teaching experience. To contribute to this, please open the following document here! Once opened, you can click on any teacher's wish list and purchase the desired items directly.

Your participation and generosity are truly appreciated, and they will undoubtedly make this Staff Appreciation Week a memorable and heartwarming experience for our dedicated DVHS staff members.

We look forward to celebrating with our staff together! If you have any questions or need further assistance, please feel free to email us at dvhsptsahospitality@gmail.com.

Thank you for your unwavering support!

Best regards,

Dougherty Valley is hosting the EBAL Championship Swim Meet on Friday, April 26th, and Saturday, April 27th. The lower parking lot by the pool will be used for the swim meet. Please be prepared to park in the upper lot under the solar panels on Friday, April 28th.

Please join us for our final ELAC meeting on Tuesday, April 23rd, at 5:30 PM in our DVHS Library. All students, parents, guardians, caregivers, staff, and community members are welcome to attend. Here is the AGENDA. We look forward to seeing you all there.

JOIN OUR DVHS LANGUAGE SUPPORT NETWORK:

DVHS proudly serves a linguistically diverse community. Recently, families who speak primary languages other than English have expressed interest in connecting with other families that are also fluent in their preferred language. This year, we have been able to pair all families requesting this connection with willing participants from our incredible Wildcat community. This week, we received a new request, so we are looking for a DVHS parent/guardian fluent in Spanish to join our DVHS language support network. Please email Jessica Wigginton (jwigginton@srvusd.net) if you are interested in connecting with this family.

On April 15th, you should have received this Building a Culture of Responsiveness survey link directly from the district. Let's ensure that our school has a high participation rate!

Why should you take 10 minutes to complete this survey? Because it will:

  • Influence how our school and the district communicate with our families.
  • Help us understand how we can better communicate about all aspects of your child’s learning experience.
  • Support our efforts to enhance and improve home-to-school partnerships.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could make time in your day to take the Culture of Responsiveness Survey!  If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to communications@srvusd.net or to the DVHS Principal Lauren Falkner. It will remain open until midnight on Monday, April 29th, 2024.

Parent Engagement Night with NAACP

NAACP will host Parent Engagement Workshops for Middle Schools (5/9—Updated Date) and High Schools (5/16) virtually from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Please check out the flyer for dates and RSVP here.

School Library Month

San Ramon Valley Unified School District recognizes the month of April as School Library Month. The school library ensures that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information and contributes to the growth and development of all students. Lifelong learning is enhanced and systematically developed through the school library. The librarian’s role is to provide the leadership and expertise necessary to ensure that the school library is an integral part of each school’s instructional program.

Environmental Week - April 21-27

San Ramon Valley Unified School District recognizes the week of April 21-27, 2024 as Environmental Week. Schools have the potential to effect positive, tangible environmental change while preparing students, in their careers and civic life, to be stewards of their communities, the earth, and its resources. We support students in becoming aware of the impact of their actions on themselves, others, the environment, and vulnerable communities around the world. SRVUSD also acknowledges April 21 as John Muir Day and April 22 as Earth Day.

Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month - May

San Ramon Valley Unified School District recognizes the month of May as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. California is home to over 600,000 students of Asian and Pacific Islander descent and they reflect the great diversity of culture and heritage of their many countries. SRVUSD’s Board of Education recognizes the need for all students to develop pride in their own identity and heritage as well as understand, respect, and accept the identity and heritage of others.

Mental Health Awareness Month - May

San Ramon Valley Unified School District recognizes the month of May as Mental Health Awareness Month. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reports that 13-20% of youth ages 13-18 have a diagnosed mental health disorder in the United States. With the rise in stress, fear, uncertainty, and suicidal thoughts, addressing the mental health needs of children, youth, and families is critical. The Board of Education commits that SRVUSD will intentionally commit to: Increasing awareness and understanding of mental health for our entire educational community; helping our children, youth and adults be aware of the steps they can take to protect their mental health; and providing appropriate and accessible services for all people, especially children and youth with mental health conditions.

Day of the Teacher - May 8, 2024

San Ramon Valley Unified School District recognizes May 8, 2024 as Day of the Teacher. SRVUSD’s Board of Education encourages appropriate activities that celebrate our teachers and the teaching profession. The quality of all students’ educational experiences depends significantly upon the quality and effectiveness of their teachers. SRVUSD administrators and school communities have the utmost respect and admiration for the district’s teachers as they are individuals who have dedicated their lives and their talents to the education of our children.

Classified School Employee Week - May 19-25, 2024

San Ramon Valley Unified School District recognizes the week of May 19-25, 2024 as Classified School Employee Week. Classified employees serve a vital role in creating strong, effective schools and district offices. Classified employees support students in the classroom, perform vital clerical, office, and technology functions, prepare and serve student meals, perform custodial, maintenance, and grounds services, serve as bus drivers and crossing guards, and administer other essential services that ensure that our students, campuses, and offices run smoothly and effectively. The SRVUSD Board of Education supports the celebration of Classified School Employee Week and recognizes the outstanding contributions provided by the district’s classified employees.
