RECOGNITION
Many staff and faculty were on hand to share comments and pay tribute to those being honored this evening. In addition, the Board of Trustees adopted a series of resolutions to celebrate their accomplishments and thank them for their service.

Board Awards Emeritus Status to Retiring Faculty

Emeritus status is an honorary title awarded to recognize the distinguished and honorable service of retirees and to encourage continued association with the college. Emeritus status may be granted to qualified academic, classified, and administrative staff who have serviced for ten years upon retirement or other separation from the district.

Rene Rubio Receives Dr. Ed Shenk Excellence in Student Service Award
MESA/STEM Student Affairs Specialist was named the 2021 recipient of the Dr. Ed Shenk Excellence in Student Service Award. Dr. Ed Shenk, as well as others, were on hand to pay tribute. The recipients will be recognized at a virtual ceremony on Tuesday, May 18, at 11 am.

Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Honored with Numerous Awards

At the Honor Society's (Phi Theta Kappa) annual Spring Nevada/California Regional Conference in March, NVC's honor society chapter (Beta Beta Sigma) captured numerous awards including 1st Place Honors in Action Project, 2nd Place Distinguished Chapter Officer Award, 3rd Place overall most Distinguished Chapter in the Nevada/California Region, and many more.

ACTIONS
Board Approves New Senior Director, DEI
Dr. Patricia van Leeuwaarde Moonsammy, a socio-cultural anthropologist with expertise in race, ethnicity, and diaspora studies; decolonization; performance studies and expressive culture; and media, was approved as senior director, diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). Starting on June 1, she will work with Dr. Kraft and staff to help guide and shape Napa Valley College’s DEI efforts, providing vision, leadership and direction for current and future equity initiatives.

Board Approves Resolution
in Support of LGTQ Community

The Napa Valley College LGBTQ+ Student Club requested and the Napa Valley College Board of Trustees agreed to recognize the month of June as Pride month in addition to flying the LGBTQ+ Pride flag during June.

Board Approves Faculty Chair Election

The Board of Trustees approved the. appointment of Dr. Joshua Hanson, chemistry professor, as the Science and Engineering faculty chair. The faculty chair provides leadership for their division and departments, representing faculty interests in administrative processes and decisions. Faculty serving in this position are expected to be thoughtful leaders and advocates, modeling and promoting excellence in teaching, service, and professional development for the benefit of students and the college.

Board Approves Revised Curriculum

 The Board approved curriculum changes for spring 2021 as provided by the Curriculum Committee and the Academic Senate.

Board Approves Board Policy 2015

As required by the Education Code, the Board of Trustees is required to annually review and approve the privileges afforded the student member of the board.

Board Approves Website Contract

The Board of Trustees approved a contract with Modern Campus/Omni CMS for design and web content management system/hosting for Napa Valley College's public facing website.

Agreements Approved
The Board of Trustees approved agreements with:

College and Career Access Pathways (CCAP) partnership agreements with Napa Valley Unified School District, St. Helena Unified School District, and Calistoga Joint Unified School District. These agreements establish a partnership between feeder public school districts and the Napa Valley College to provide dual enrollment courses that provide college credit to high school students within the District's geographic boundaries.

American Medical Response (AMR): Renewal affiliation agreement with AMR for student so get hands-on learning experiences through internships.

Chabot-Las Positas Community College District: Agreement to participate in Chabot's California Early Childhood Mentor Program and receive resources to recruit and train early childhood mentors and place student teachers with mentors to complete their practicum.

City of Napa: Renewal agreement for field internship facilities for paramedic field training internship experiences.

The Regents of the University of California (UC Davis): Agreement to participate in the University of California, Davis Transfer Opportunity Program for academic year 2021-2022.
PRESIDENT'S REPORT
As part of the President's Report, the following individuals provided updates:

  • Jessica Thomason, executive director of the Napa Valley College Foundation (Holly Dawson provided report on her behalf) provided an update on student scholarships: 133 students were awarded 237 scholarships for a total of $178,000. She also reminded everyone to please respond to the survey for their strategic planning efforts and preview the auction lots for their online auction and fundraiser and make sure to bid.
  • Dr. Robyn Wornall, senior dean, RPIE, provided an update on the accreditation process.
  • Holly Dawson, director, public affairs & communications, provided an update on storytelling as a marketing strategy and shared examples on recent participation in Social Media Advocacy Week, Black Student Success Week, and the upcoming virtual commencement ceremony.
  • Bob Parker, asst. superintendent/vice president, administrative services, provided an update on technology and the recent issues experienced with single sign-on. He also provided an update on the campus housing project.
  • Dr. Sara Parker, asst. superintendent/vice president, academic affairs, provided an update on summer enrollment and plans for the. fall semester.
  • Patti Morgan, senior dean, financial aid/EOPS/veterans/pre-college TRIO programs,  provided an update on emergency relief grant distribution for students.
