Happy belated Father's Day!
One month has passed since our 2nd annual Go Wheels Up event and I'm not sure how that can be. It seems like just a few days ago we were all enjoying an incredible weekend of community and family fun.
Turnout for the event was unbelievable and in spite of a brief rain shower on Sunday, the event went off without a hitch.
I've never had the opportunity to see an F-16 in action so I had no real expectations. The second the Viper appeared flying directly over show center, I was in love. It was an incredible gift to see it in person and watching the awe on the faces of all those in attendance was priceless.
Community events like these are how we introduce aviation to a new generation. Airplanes and aviation can be transformed from the mysterious to an attainable career path. The children crawling inside the Black Hawk helicopter are future pilots, mechanics, and engineers.
That said, we appreciate the flexibility of all our users during the airshow weekend. We know it can potentially cause inconvenience but when you look at the bigger picture, I think we can all agree that it's worth it.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FLYOVERS FOR THE FOURTH
San Marcos, TX (June 16, 2021) On Saturday July 3rd and Sunday July 4th, 2021, warbird aircraft of the Central Texas Wing of the Commemorative Air Force will perform flyovers of neighborhoods in Austin to help celebrate Independence Day.
Participating neighborhoods will see up to six vintage aircraft fly over at 1000 feet above ground level in precise formation. The aircraft will over-fly up to fifty neighborhoods over the July 4th weekend.
The precise route of flight for the formation will be determined on July 1st. This is also the deadline for neighborhoods to sign up to participate. Neighborhoods can put a “pin on the map” with as low as a $500.00 donation to the organization. The event will be live streamed via Facebook and YouTube with audio and video from both the ground and the aircraft during the flight. Funds from the event will be used to support the continued preservation and restoration of historic aircraft.
About the Central Texas Wing
The Central Texas Wing is part of the Commemorative Air Force (CAF), an educational non-profit organization founded in 1957. The CAF has more than 12,000 members and 165 vintage military aircraft located around the nation. These aircraft comprise the world’s largest flying museum, and are operated for the education and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Central Texas Wing was established in March, 1974. It’s 150 members maintain six World War II era aircraft in flying condition, including one of the most historic aircraft still flying, the C-47 That’s All, Brother. All members are volunteers and the Wing is housed in a World War II hangar at the San Marcos Regional Airport. Wing aircraft provide history flights, perform flyovers, and attend air shows around the country. A Casino Night, Golf Tournament, and Veteran's Day Dinner Dance are three major fundraisers held annually to support the restoration and maintenance of our historic aircraft. The Wing is open M-W-F-Sat from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for tours to school groups, civic and military organizations, ROTC cadets, scout organizations and the general public. Admission is free. More information can be found at www.centraltexaswing.org or on Facebook.
