Hola Comunidad,

We are reaching out to you today with an exciting opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of students facing academic challenges. El Centro will be participating in Crowdfunding UC Davis to support our Sí Se Puede Academic Success Institute.

The Sí, Se Puede Academic Success Institute aims to support Chicanx and Latinx students struggling with academic probation and dismissal at UC Davis. The institute consists of a one day academic experience that includes workshops, community building, and academic support. Students participate in this culturally immersive experience that allows them to access resources, build a support system with UC Davis career staff, and connect with other Chicanx and Latinx students who are also facing similar academic challenges.

By the end of the institute our students walk away with an academic plan, different academic resources, and a community that will support their academic success at UC Davis. We recognize that facing academic challenges can be a lonely experience that disproportionately impacts our student community as many of them identify as first-generation college students who come from low-income backgrounds. These identities contribute to many additional barriers they face at our institution resulting in academic challenges. This institute allows us to change the narrative of our students who are at risk of leaving the institution and provide them with the support to thrive as scholars and future professionals.

We are asking for your support in donating and sharing this information across your networks.

Sending on behalf of 2023-2024 Campus Judicial Board student members:

We are currently accepting applications for students to serve on next year’s 2024-2025 Campus Judicial Board (CJB). Please consider applying and/or help us spread the word!

The CJB is a unique student group on campus that work directly with the Office of Student Support and Judicial Affairs (OSSJA) to resolve disputed cases of alleged misconduct through formal hearings and advising students who have been reported to our office. Serving as a member of the CJB is a great way to work on cases, mostly involving alleged academic misconduct (i.e. plagiarism, exam misconduct, etc.), that impact the lives of students on campus and sharpen active listening, questioning, and evidence evaluation skills. CJB members are also key sources of information for students regarding academic integrity by conducting outreach at events and on social media.

The application is here: https://ossja.ucdavis.edu/cjb/how-applyApplications are due by February 29th. Please email cjb@ucdavis.edu with any questions.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

2023-2024 Campus Judicial Board student members and CJB Staff Advisors Stasha Burton and Syreeta Imura

Hello Campus Community,

Have you or an immediate family member been incarcerated?

If so – please, click HERE to join the Davis Underground Scholars Program (USP).

The UC Davis Underground Scholars Program aims to create a pathway for incarcerated, formerly incarcerated and system impacted individuals into higher education. We are an academic support program housed within the Office of Educational Opportunity and Enrichment Services (OEOES) at UC Davis. Our goal is to build a prison-to-school pipeline through recruitment, retention, advocacy, wellness, and career services.

Gunner Johnson, Program Director

Gunner Johnson was incarcerated for decades before his release in 2017. He joins the Davis-USP as its first Director, coming from Project Rebound at Sac State. Read Gunner's full bio here. Contact Gunner at gunjohnson@ucdavis.edu

Trevor was incarcerated for 10 years before his release in 2014. After prison, Trevor was accepted to UC Davis, graduating in 2017. Now, as a formerly incarcerated Aggie alum, he is excited to serve formerly incarcerated and system-impacted UC Davis students. Contact Trevor at treclark@ucdavis.edu

Scholarships

I hope you all are doing well. I’m the Reservation and Grants Specialist at the Center for Student Involvement (CSI), and I manage all 4 grants within CSI: Club Finance Council (CFC), Beyond Tolerance, Graduate & Professional Schools (GAPS), and Pepsi Product.

What we do: CSI provides up to $3,000 to Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) to help pay for educational programs, guest speakers, conferences, performances, cultural shows, publications, and other events that enrich campus life.

Purpose of writing: We’re currently accepting applications for all our grant programs. Each grant can assist and enrich student events in multiple ways. For example, the Club Finance Council has awarded HackDavis $3,000 for their annual hackathon event. The Beyond Tolerance program has awarded the Pilipinx-American in Science Engineering $200 to support their annual cultural event.

We would really appreciate it if you'd share the grant opportunities in your department newsletter as we feel students who participate in your programs would be interested in applying and could gain substantial financial support when planning for student events. Would this be possible? I’ve attached the message and flyer we’d like to share in the newsletter for your reference.

Thank you for your time and help! Please let me know if I can answer any questions.

Best,

Hello,

My name is Ashley Samson. I am the Scholarships and Operations Coordinator within the Global Learning Hub. I wanted to reach out to see if you are willing to share the attached flyer with your students outlining a research grant opportunity.

The Global Aggies Award for LGBTQIA+ Rights encourages and supports UC Davis students global learning and engagement regarding the issues that LGBTQIA+ communities and individuals face around the world. Students may submit project proposals individually or as a team of collaborators.

The grant supports student involvement in research or creative work, internships/externships, or other projects that advance the rights and/or wellbeing of LGBTQIA+ people globally. This may include:

  • Student-driven research or creative activity with a global dimension that aims to support or explore LGBTQIA+ wellbeing and/or rights.
  • Collaboration with faculty on relevant research or creative activity.
  • Engagement in projects or internships with organizations that support LGBTQIA+ wellbeing and/or rights—these may impact a defined community or create resources supporting LGBTQIA+ people locally, in the United States, in other countries, or transnationally.
  • Student-developed independent projects focused on topics relevant to this award to be implemented while studying abroad.

Eligibility

  • Open to continuing UC Davis undergraduate, graduate, and professional students.
