It has been an unusual winter here in Ontario so far. In Southern Ontario, it has been unseasonably mild with little snow accumulation. Any snow that does fall either melts or the rain washes it away. Northern Ontario has snow cover and ice has been reported in some regions.
Conference season is now in full swing; it kicked off with OGSA’s Ontario Golf Course Management Conference in Niagara Falls on January 16-18th. We are 20 days away from the Canadian in Montreal, Quebec February 27 - 29th.

The first month of 2024 in Alberta has been one with extremes. The new year came in with a bang as rain hit the Calgary area. Many courses in the southern part of the city had ice form as a result. Edmonton had next to no snow resulting in a brown Christmas. This raises concerns as the area started the 2023 season off extremely dry as well. Early January then saw frigid temperatures across the entire province with most areas going well below -40C.

January 24, 2024 was Bell Let’s Talk Day! In September 2010, Bell Let’s Talk began a new conversation about Canada’s mental health. At that time, most people were not talking about mental illness, but the numbers spoke volumes about the urgent need for action. Bell Let’s Talk has brought awareness to the stigma around mental illness over the past fourteen years. Since then, Bell Let’s Talk Day has become the world’s largest conversation about mental health, increasing awareness and helping create real change. Today’s initiative encourages conversations around mental health at home and at work and helps reduce the stigma that surrounds it.
